Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Responsibilities:
Establish payment arrangements
Collect payments, set up payment plans, and document arrangements in the patient's record
Coordinate with other departments
Work with patient placement, care coordination, social services, and the business office
Ensure timely reimbursement
Follow up on claims and accounts, and work to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement
Handle charity applications
Process applications for charity programs and other financial assistance
Refer patients
Refer patients to other agencies for assistance with discharge or post-hospital care
Review insurance
Verify insurance benefits and coverage, and assess eligibility for government programs
Provide financial counseling
Advise patients on their financial options, including insurance benefits, payment plans, and charity programs
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to explain complex financial concepts in a clear and understandable way
+ Strong organizational skills to manage information and caseloads
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Pull daily census, whether inpatient or outpatient
• Verifying insurance benefits verification and documenting on the account
• Utilize online tools and payer websites for pricing and contracts
• Verifying that all pre-certifications have been done with the insurance
• Work directly with case management
• Review benefits and payment/deductible/copay with the patient
• Offer charity application as needed
• Collect money and/or secure payment via phone or in person
• Set up payment plans and provide receipt
• Obtain patient signatures on forms for Medicare: IMMs and MOONs and scan into electronic record
• Resolve billing issues for online inquiries, walk ins, and call in patients
• Escalate settlement offer, complaints, and unresolvable issues to leadership
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Insurance Regulatory Knowledge (Intermediate): Demonstrates knowledge of the appropriate rules and regulations for insurance policies, claims, payment and coverage. Ability to interpret and explain rules and regulations that are ambiguous or unclear.
• Communication of Results (Intermediate): Communicates results and recommendations to customers in a concise and non-technical format. Clearly states implications and potential next steps. Presents analysis, ideas, and findings using the appropriate data visualization and presentation tools [such as Word, Excel, Tableau, and PowerPoint].
• Problem Solving (Intermediate): Uses critical thinking and process improvement i.e. coaches and mentors development of problem statement, describes current state, identifies root causes, creates future state, coaches and mentors development of solutions and action plans with a sustainability plan. Applies appropriate tools to address issues.
