Easter Seals of Greater Houston, a leading provider of service to people of all ages, with any type of disability, is currently seeking a Financial Coach and Education Specialist. This staff person will network with other social services in the Houston community, teach financial education classes, and provide 1:1 financial coaching to clients.
Job Title: Financial Coach and Education Specialist
Position Type: Full-time (40 hrs.), including some evening and weekend work
Location: Houston, with some work/travel in surrounding counties
Key Responsibilities:
- Network with other social services in the Houston community. Learn where there are gaps in services, or opportunities to collaborate, in order to bring more financial education to Houston communities.
- Teach financial education classes in Houston, at least two classes per month. Classes may range from basic financial literacy to advanced homebuyer education classes, and will include lessons, guest speakers, interactive activities, and the introduction of financial technology. (Training will be provided.)
- Provide 1:1 financial coaching to clients. Goal is 100 coaching clients over a year, with 35-40 open at a time. Financial coaching includes the use of workbooks, Easter Seals' tool for measuring change in a client's financial situation; at least quarterly 1:1 meetings with clients; and as available, assisting clients in acquiring emergency financial assistance. Also provide general case management and information and referral services.
- Within 6 months of hire, become a certified financial coach via United Way or other approved certification program. Assist as needed in event planning, meeting representation, data collection, reporting, and trainings. Attend team meetings, staff meetings, and as the need arises, community-based meetings. Conduct work in a collaborative manner, reaching out to intra- and inter-agency teams. Support the overall mission of the agency and assume additional duties as they are assigned.
Essential Qualifications & Leadership Qualities:
- 2+ years experience working in a case management, mentoring, or coaching capacity.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must maintain current Driver's license and appropriate car insurance.
- Must be willing to drive in Houston and surrounding areas.
Preferred qualifications:
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
