Position Summary:
Join a pioneering force in human neuroscience research, education, and clinical services dedicated to enhancing mental health and overall well-being. We are seeking a Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to champion the operational excellence of our esteemed research institute at UCLA. As a strategic partner to our Institute Director and Executive Vice Chair, you will spearhead transformative initiatives and ensure the seamless integration of business functions with our academic mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Institute leadership to devise and implement strategic initiatives that drive innovation and uphold academic excellence.
- Oversee the financial health and sustainability of the Institute, working in tandem with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to establish and maintain robust administrative and financial frameworks.
- Provide expert guidance and support to division/center directors, faculty members, principal investigators (PIs), and administrative staff across various divisions and research centers.
- Exercise fiscal stewardship over the Institute's budget, including the management of funds exceeding $245 million and $139 million in endowment market value.
- Lead internal and external financial reporting efforts, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and providing strategic insights for informed decision-making.
- Facilitate faculty salary negotiations, budget processes, and liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders both within UCLA and external entities.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience in financial management leadership roles, preferably within academic or research institutions, with a minimum of 12 years of demonstrated expertise.
- Proven track record of managing diverse funding sources, including state funds, endowments, and grants, coupled with a sound understanding of UC financial management principles.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to navigate complex challenges, foster collaboration, and drive organizational success.
- Strong analytical acumen, evidenced by the ability to assess intricate issues and formulate strategic solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information concisely and effectively.
- Interpersonal finesse to cultivate positive working relationships across all levels of the organization and promote an inclusive and supportive work environment.
- Proficiency in financial analysis tools, spreadsheet software, and database management systems.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration is required.
- Advanced degree in accounting or business administration is preferred.
