Description:
Entech Staffing is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist for a position at a local educational institution in Flint, MI. This is a full-time, contract/temporary position.
Responsibilities:
1. Verification and Packaging of Title IV Funding (Pell Grants, Direct Loans, SEOG, and Work Study).
a. Utilize federal, state, and institutional Financial Aid processes and systems, determine type and amount of aid for which student is eligible (known as packaging or needs analysis). Process involves review and/or verification of information reported, award determination, and notification to students.
b. Review and process financial aid information submitted by students.
c. Verify the accuracy of documents and consistency of data from need analysis processor, federal tax returns, financial aid transcripts, verification documents and student information; perform data analysis to identify discrepancies in data and determine action for resolution.
d. Request additional information for incomplete or inconsistent applications to perform accurate needs analysis.
e. Review tax transcripts and tax returns for accuracy in tax reporting status, type of return filed.
f. Review verification documents for conflicting information.
g. Resolve all conflicting information through written communication with students or parents and make appropriate corrections if necessary.
h. Plan and perform diversified duties requiring extensive knowledge of and the use of a wide range of procedures.
i. Ensure students are awarded the appropriate allocation of loans based on grade level and previous borrowing status.
j. Resolve problems with awarding issues, student/lender situations, default issues etc.
k. Review Financial Aid Change forms and ensure timely processing of student requests and information.
l. Monitor student files awaiting corrections, manually package aid when necessary, and notify Analyst and Reconciliation Specialist when corrections are not received from DOE within normal timeframe.
m. Manually calculate financial aid packages for files that were not able to be auto-packaged due to Selective Service status, Satisfactory Academic Progress status, high school diploma status, etc.
n. Repackage aid, when necessary, which may include recalculating Cost of Attendance based on enrollment, and the reassessment of needs analysis.
2. Consortium Programs
a. Work with existing and newly developed consortium agreements to ensure that students are tracked, enrollment is verified, attendance is monitored, and final grades are submitted to each home institution as outlined in each agreement.
b. Ensure that consortium populations are not dropped for non-payment and that aid pays only at the home school for students enrolled in the consortium programs.
3. Monitor the Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) report to ensure that students are not receiving Pell funding in excess of the 600% lifetime eligibility and adjust aid accordingly.
4. Act as the liaison with the TRIO (SSS) and Special Populations (Perkins) Program Coordinators regarding student awards.
Requirements:
1. Associate Degree
2. One (1) to three (3) years of financial aid experience or equivalent experience (finance, mortgage, retail management, or similar).
3. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and provide recommendations to apply appropriate changes to methods, procedures, and processes.
4. Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic algebraic concepts.
5. Must pass a drug test and criminal background check prior to starting position.
Preferred Experience:
1. Experience Administering Title IV funds.
2. Experience with Excel including creating reports.
3. Audit and/or analytical work paper preparation experience.
4. Experience with income tax preparation and an understanding of the tax code.
