Position Overview
The Interim Director of Financial Aid is a temporary leadership role responsible for overseeing the administration of financial aid programs and services. This individual ensures compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, while providing strategic direction to support student access and success through financial aid.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Provide leadership to the financial aid office, including supervising and mentoring staff, and ensuring effective operation of all financial aid functions.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies related to financial aid. Stay current with changes in legislation affecting financial aid.
- Budget Management: Oversee the financial aid budget, including forecasting, allocation, and reconciliation of funds. Ensure the efficient use and management of financial resources.
- Policy Development: Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of financial aid services.
- Student Support: Provide guidance and support to students and families regarding financial aid options, application processes, and eligibility requirements. Resolve complex financial aid issues and appeals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, such as Admissions, Registrar, and Student Accounts, to ensure seamless delivery of services and support to students.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit required reports to federal and state agencies, as well as internal reports to college administration.
- Professional Development: Promote professional growth and development for financial aid staff through training and participation in professional organizations and conferences.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in financial aid administration, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and policies. Experience with Ellucian Colleague, specifically with the financial aid module.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze data, solve problems, and make informed decisions. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
