GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION
All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.
Assists in administering the program requirements for Federal Student Aid and State Aid programs and Scholarships awarded through the Office of Financial Aid. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a community college and a minimum of two years Federal Student Aid and/or Customer Service Representative experience; or equivalent experience in a related environment required
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES , include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
Maintain knowledge of diversity-related issues, legislation, and best practices.
Responsible for collection of all required data for determining student eligibility for financial aid in accordance to current federal, state and institutional policies.
Provide advisement to students and families regarding federal, state and institutional guidelines when applying for and receiving student financial aid. This includes knowledge of loans, state aid, work study and scholarships.
Assist students in person, over the telephone and via electronic communications (finaid mailbox) in their efforts to attain the best possible financial aid plan for their educational goals
Responsible for assisting students at their assigned location with determining work study eligibility and placing the student in a position.
Coordinate with faculty and staff as needed to best prepare students for success
Assist the Director and Assistant Director with other duties as needed to receive, verify, package and report all federal student aid with the utmost accuracy and efficiency.
Participate in regular training in customer service and in developing an increasing understanding for administering federal, state and institutional aid in the most professional, effective manner.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by departmental authority.
