Job Title: Finance Director

Position Type: Onsite / Full-Time / Exempt
Pay: $80,000/year
Job Summary:
The Finance Director is a key member of the leadership team, responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This role involves managing the financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance functions to support the organization’s mission. The Finance Director will work closely with the CFO and program leaders to provide strategic financial guidance and ensure the efficient allocation of resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Analysis and Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses for management, the Board, and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and non-profit accounting standards.
- Manage cash flow, including monitoring reserves, investments, and liquidity.
- Prepare financial reports for grants, contracts, and other funding sources, ensuring compliance with all reporting requirements.
- Manage restricted and unrestricted funds, ensuring proper allocation and tracking of grants, donations, and other funding sources.
Financial Planning, Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Provide financial forecasting and analysis to support strategic planning and decision-making.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, including the preparation, presentation, and monitoring of the budget, and collaborate with department heads to develop and manage program and departmental budgets.
- Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions as needed.
- Advise the CFO on financial matters, including risk management, investment strategies, and resource allocation.
- Provide regular updates to the CFO on financial performance and budget adherence.
Team Leadership and Development:
- Provide leadership and oversight for all Finance Department operations.
- Lead and mentor the Finance team, including accountants, clerks, and other financial staff.
- Manage, hire, retain and cross train staff, and assign and evaluate work.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven culture within the Finance department.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities for Finance staff.
Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulations, including tax filings (e.g., Form 990) and other statutory requirements.
- Oversee and lead the preparation for and coordination of annual audits, including liaising with external auditors and ensuring the timely resolution of audit findings.
- Maintain and update financial policies and procedures, ensuring robust internal controls and best practices.
Grants and Fund Management:
- Oversee the financial management of grants, including budgeting, tracking, and reporting on grant expenditures.
- Collaborate with the Development team to support grant applications and fundraising efforts with accurate financial data.
- Ensure that funds are properly allocated and used in accordance with donor restrictions and grantor requirements.
Collaboration:
- Participate in departmental, organization and other staff meetings as directed.
- Work closely with program managers, department heads, and other stakeholders to support the financial aspects of program delivery and organizational initiatives.
- Support the CFO as the financial liaison to the Board of Directors, presenting financial information and advising on fiscal matters.
- Engage with donors, funders, and external partners as needed to support the financial health of the organization.
- Manage and direct interactions with parent company as related to accounting and financial reporting needs.
- Supervise the Staff Accountant and Accounting Clerk.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; master’s degree or CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a non-profit organization.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, non-profit accounting, and financial reporting.
- Experience in budgeting, financial forecasting, and grant management.
- Proficiency in use of accounting software (experience with Lawson accounting system is a plus) and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
