Pedal Movement is seeking a Field Technician to help manage and grow our bike share fleet in the greater Long Beach area. Pedal Movement seeks a professional who is passionate about making Long Beach a more bike-friendly city and who is highly motivated to work with an evolving bike share program.
Pedal Movement prefers applicants who are experienced bicycle mechanics to assist with all aspects of bicycle assembly, maintenance, and repair, though we will consider all applicants regardless of experience. Training on technical and unique aspects of bike share bikes will be provided. Applicants should have commercial or personal driving experience (with a clean record). A valid (non-commercial) driver’s license is required for this position.
Core position duties may include: general field operations including logistics and special events, maintenance and repair of system assets and equipment, documenting activities in the software portal, rebalancing of the bicycle fleet and general shop operations, driving rebalancing vehicles, lifting and loading bicycles, and responding to basic customer inquiries. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Positions are available for both day and evening shifts. Day shift is 630am - 3pm, Evening shift is 3pm-1130pm
Key Aspects of Position:

Drive large van/truck, load/unload bicycles to rebalance system.

Inspect and evaluate bicycles and bike share stations for safety, functionality, and cleanliness.

Perform routine bicycle maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs as necessary.

Identify and report bicycles in need of in-house repair.

Perform routine station maintenance and repairs as necessary.

Prioritize maintenance activities and seek efficiencies between tasks.

Identify, report, and resolve all station malfunctions and/or problems.

Use software and written forms to record all maintenance/repair activity.

Assist with station assembly and installation as necessary/assigned.

Maintain clean and organized tools and workspaces.

Adhere to all safety protocols.

Experience exposure to varying weather conditions during all 4 seasons as this is a year-round, and often outdoor position.

Interact with customers and potential customers in public—represent Long Beach Bike Share responsibly and effectively.

Receive training in all aspects of Long Beach Bike Share operations, including:

Bicycle maintenance and repair

Station technology (hardware and software), maintenance and repair

Basic customer service and public relations

Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills
-
1+ years experience as a bike mechanic preferred, though not required
-
Ability to assemble, disassemble, and identify different bicycle components and tools

Ability to prioritize and follow instructions from other staff
-
Mechanical and technical aptitude, ability to creatively and collaboratively solve problems

Comfort driving a large van/truck preferred and comfort riding a bicycle preferred

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record preferred, with ability to pass MVR check preferred (no more than 1 moving violation in the past three years)

Basic computer skills

Flexible availability on weekends and at night

Comfortable with fast-paced response times for repairs and active warehouse/shop

Excellent time management and organization skills

Ability to lift up to 60 lbs; stoop, bend, and stand for long periods
