POSITION SUMMARY
The Field Technician will act as a Subject Matter Expert in the support of the maintenance responsibilities for the company’s Baggage Handling, Passenger Boarding Bridge, Security Screening Systems and Ground Service Equipment contracts at multiple airport locations across the country. The role is instrumental in the delivery of technical services to meet the needs of temporary outstation projects and within our permanent contract projects. The key goal of this role it to advance the companies technical resources through providing hands on technical services where needed and to increase our field’s technical abilities. The position will be required to perform quality technical services that ELS expects from all our technicians as well as to identify any corrective actions and suggest improvements to policy and procedure. Goal setting and communication in the role is instrumental in assisting operations that consistently develop and employ best practices regardless of location and achieve optimal performance results when measured against recognized industry leading performance measures. The role will coordinate with the Director of Technical Services and the Regional Managers to ensure support is scheduled at locations as required. The position will help new employees acclimate to specific equipment to achieve fundamental troubleshooting and maintenance requirements for the systems in their care. The position will provide hands on training to multiples technical positions and must have excellent understanding of the tasks necessary in the maintenance and operation of BHS, PBB, ASL and GSE. This will be inclusive of preventative maintenance, causes of operational problems, deficiency inspections and reporting, PLC’s, VFD’s and all other electrical systems.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Excellent knowledge in the field of Baggage Handling maintenance, PBB maintenance, GSE maintenance, situational leadership, and technical aptitude.
- Heavily developed electrical and mechanical skills specializing in: PLC, IO, specialized sensors, advanced mechanical systems, hydraulics, controlled drive systems and control systems as a whole.
- Proven ability to perform various types of electrical and mechanical work, ranging from refurbishment, upgrade project and electrical modernization project.
- Ability to conduct oneself in a professional and responsible manor to colleagues, customers and the public.
- Ability to work on unfamiliar equipment and become a subject matter expert within a short duration of time.
- Lead the frontline in uncharted territory: whether that be a new site, new customer or new technology.
- Excellent management and team leadership skills.
- Will take personal responsibility to complete all technical field assignments safely and efficiently.
- Will advance the skillset that supports technical staff development and the maintenance needs of the company’s contracted programs.
- Provide hands on training at operations as required, specific to the equipment types and local needs.
- Support Operations team by working in a safe, customer-focused manner.
- Must be self-motivated and customer centric.
- Ability to coordinate and liaison between 3rd parties in transference of technical skills, knowledge and documentation while maintaining and growing our reputation with these entities.
- Proactive problem solving abilities when no other resources are available.
- Ability to learn, teach and support not only the various facets of our industry but the software platforms (CMMS) that are used to document and track their work history.
- Will use software platforms to document all work being completed to include the use of labor and parts.
- Assess risk at individual programs and where necessary recommend programs that protect operations from the loss of tribal and local knowledge by building information packages to capture experience and technical know-how that can be efficiently transferred to new employees.
- Handle multiple internal and external projects and daily activities, manage and meet deadlines, and develop and track plans on how to accomplish departmental goals.
- Work with local site and central Safety department leadership to understand, implement, and audit safety programs. Ensure that all safety programs and procedures are followed.
- Maintain and improve preventative maintenance programs and good working relationships with operations leadership and our field teams.
- Must have the ability to provide specific, enriched feedback to enhance individual performance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Be available to support emergency service calls out of town for malfunctioning equipment both by phone and can quickly deploy on site visits.
- Complies with all company and federally established policies and procedures.
- Utilizes a computer to perform a variety of communications, training and administrative processes.
- Completes forms connected with work assignments according to established procedures.
- Completes all ELSU safety training as assigned by the Company.
- Compliance with all ELS safety programs, policies and procedures.
- Compliance with local, state and national safety policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties/assignments that may be required by management from time to time.
Qualifications
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintenance and repair of Baggage Handling Systems, Passenger Boarding Bridges, Ground Service Equipment, and electrical automation systems.
- Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
- Travel up to three weeks at a time.
- Knowledge of general workplace safety requirements and procedures.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Job is based in Carrollton Texas, however there is the ability to work out of a home office if not based in the DFW metroplex.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic, Automation, General Mathematics/Sciences
secondary schooling degrees/diplomas/programs.
- Wireman, Journeyman or Master Electrician License (or relevant license in equivalent discipline.)
- OSHA 30 course completion.
- 4+ years’ experience in a safety and/or training position
- Welding, fabricating or machine shop experience.
- Knowledge of airport support equipment such as PCA’s, GPU’s and PWC’s

Education :
- High School Graduate
Experience:
- Solid experience and capability related to the maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of BHS/PBB/GSE equipment and its components.
- In-depth experience with the manufacturing, repairing or maintaining industrial equipment.
Computer Skills: Must be proficient in MS office, excel and outlook. General computer literacy.

- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to pass a 10-year criminal history records check to obtain and maintain an Airport Security badge
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Company’s insurance policy
- Must be able to comply with the ELS Drug and Alcohol policy.
