The Field/Shop Mechanic is accountable for ensuring that company-owned tools, paving equipment and vehicles are maintained in good working order at all times, consistent with direction provided by management.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate condition of defective tools, equipment and fleet vehicles located at the Yard or at construction job sites; collaborate with the Equipment Manager in trouble shooting defective equipment and participate in discussions to arrive to solutions for dealing with defective items.
Responsible for diagnosing and repairing light, medium and heavy-duty diesel trucks as well as troubleshooting air systems, hydraulics, fuel systems, drivability issues, suspension, electrical and drivetrain.
- For items requiring more extensive or unusual repairs, prepare an estimate of cost to complete repair and seek authorization to proceed from Equipment Manager before commencing repair.
- Following a standard maintenance schedule developed collaboratively with the Equipment Manager, perform routine maintenance on company-owned tools, equipment and vehicles. Ensure that maintenance is performed on schedule, to standard and that accurate logs of such maintenance are kept up to date.
- Place approved orders for replacement parts with vendors; ensure that the Equipment Manager is informed of all such deliveries and that all associated paperwork is provided to the Equipment.
- Before departing work each day, ensure that the shop area is neat, clean and orderly; all tools are stored in their proper place and the shop surfaces are free of trash and debris.
- Additional responsibilities as may be assumed or assigned from time to time in support of our company's effort to achieve client loyalty
Position Requirements
Must Have own tools
Formal Education & Certification
Trade school or 3-5 years' experience preferred.
Paving/heavy highway
Knowledge & Experience
- Able to summarize actions and communicate information to supervisor.
- Able to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently meet deadlines.
- Must be able to work with others and communicate with customers in a professional manner.
- Able to perform duties independently.
- Able to follow through and complete tasks as assigned in a timely manner.
Work Conditions
- Work will be performed in both a general warehouse environment as well as a construction site environment.
- May require availability for overtime hours and some travel.
- Requires periodic participation and attendance at company events and meetings.
- Able to move over rough terrain on project sites.
