About the Job
Industry leading switchgear and circuit breaker service and repair company is seeking a Field Service Technician for a direct hire role in the Sheboygan Falls, WI area. The technician will be responsible for supporting customers onsite in testing, repairing, upgrading, reconditioning, and re-manufacturing electrical equipment from a single circuit breaker to a complete substation. Ideal candidate will have a strong background in industrial maintenance and repair, with experience in both mechanical and electrical equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical
- Perform power studies (short circuit, coordination, arc flash) in accordance with applicable standards, and develop a report with recommendations.
- Perform load monitoring; safely and properly connecting load monitors and providing reports.
- Perform power quality monitoring, interpreting the collected data, and make recommendations, especially as it pertains to IEEE-519.
- Perform partial discharge surveys and developing a report.
- Manage each job from beginning to end using established processes and procedures.
- Collaborate with customers and the engineering division to provide solutions to customers.
- Consult with and provide support to customers with product related questions and make recommendations.
- Perform Breaker Reconditioning
- Be prepared for on/call or after-hours emergency orders as required.
- Clean electrical parts (copper buss, racking mechs, cubical primary bottles)
- Cut and weld metals
- Remove and reinstall electrical components in switchgear and circuit breakers with documentation
- Choose correct insulation and properly install over copper buss
- Mechanical ability to troubleshoot and repair switchgear and circuit breakers
- Rack breakers in and out of cubicles and know correct interlock positions
- Choose correct paints and primers for indoor and outdoor equipment and know how to mix and apply
- Read manuals and follow detailed instructions on adjusting equipment
- Offer customers proper services needed for their electrical equipment
Electrical
- Assist senior personnel as needed to validate subsystem functionality and electrical design operation
- Read wire breakers, switchgear, and MCC’s from a point-to-point diagram
- Follow NETA testing processes of electrical apparatus
- Buzz out and generate electrical schematics of industrial equipment
- Test and troubleshoot electrical wiring
- Read a one line diagram and properly ground equipment for a safe workspace
- Perform Evaluation on basic and more advanced electrical devices and circuits, including Circuit breakers, switchgear, MCCB’S, MCC, CT’s, PT’S and transformers.
- Test electrical equipment such as circuit breakers, MCC buckets, MCCB’s Switchgear, PT’s CT’s and Transformers
- Perform upkeep and maintenance to electrical test equipment
- Stage test equipment and materials for project execution
- Interpret test results and provide immediate feedback to project leads and senior personnel for any resolution actions needed
- May be modified from time to time. Other duties, tasks and work may be assigned
METRICS
- Completes support of reconditioning of breakers in a timely manner based on experience.
- Ensures work area remains tidy.
- Maintains records of all work performed including images of initial breakers received and throughout the project.
- Project and demand oriented as defined by the objectives set forth by operations manager and measured based on meeting objectives, completion on time, accuracy and neatness of work, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- The ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical machinery.
- Knowledge of electrical apparatus including 480V, 5KV and 15KV a plus.
- Ability to learn to troubleshot electrical and mechanical problems and repair
- Ability to maintain good housekeeping of designated work area.
- Ability to use measuring tools (vernier caliper, micrometer, tape measure, etc.)
- Ability to learn to troubleshoot electrical circuits safely and make repairs.
- Capable of lifting 50-pounds.
- Ability and willingness to read and study OEM manuals and technical literature.
- Mechanically inclined, must have your own tools.
- Ability to trouble shoot electrical circuits safely and make repairs.
- Detail oriented, great attitude, team player, well organized.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
- Strong electrical skills.
- Strong mechanical skills.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school or equivalent GED certification.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Frequent reaching/working overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling
- Frequent walking
- Continuous standing and repetitive hand motion.
- Lifting requirements include occasional lifting up to 75 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds and continuous lifting of up to 25 pounds.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Typical hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm. In a field role, your hours will be dictated by the customer and may be earlier or later than typical.
