About the Job
Ziegler CAT has an opening for an experienced Field Service Mechanic, with a focus on heavy construction equipment. We are looking for a dedicated employee with excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to help us maximize customer uptime.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair heavy construction equipment including compactors, loaders, excavators, dozers, haul trucks, among other medium to heavy duty equipment
- Responds to customer needs in a positive, supportive, and timely manner to ensure maximum value for work performed in the field; a company truck, phone, and computer are provided
- Using independent judgment, assumes responsibility for the safe maintenance and repair on a variety of equipment, which involve mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems
- Maintains a clean and safe work area, adheres to all safety procedures; maintains a service vehicle in a clean and professional manner
- Positively interacts with manager and team members to satisfy customer needs
- Provides assistance to other technicians as needed in regard to troubleshooting repairs
- Utilize modern communication methods both internal and external, to ensure job status is conveyed in a timely manner and the customer’s needs are being exceeded
- Documents labor, parts used, and description of work performed assuring that work orders can be closed and billed as communicated with the customer
- Willing to respond to after hour emergency calls as directed by supervisor
- Identifies and communicates the need for parts for inventory
- Performs other duties as assigned/required
Qualifications:
- 2-year technical degree or high school diploma and several years of comparable experience
- 2+ years of relevant diesel equipment repair experience, preferably in the field
- Knowledge of hydraulics, transmissions, undercarriage, track systems, components, electrical, and fuel systems
- Possesses the ability to diagnose equipment without supervision; is also able to understand and communicate schematics
- Desire to provide exceptional customer service with a strong attention to detail
- Must be an excellent problem solver who possesses modern communication and computer skills
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment
- Willing and able to respond to emergency after-hour calls, as directed by supervisor
- Must operate equipment safely
- Own mechanic tool set
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record
- Class A CDL or willingness to obtain one within a defined period of time
- Obtain a DOT medical certification card
- Pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen & physical
- This role is deemed safety-sensitive and will be subject to a drug test as a pre-employment requirement
