About the Job
The primary responsibility of the Lead Field Service Technician is to lead, plan and coordinate major component exchanges and uptower component repairs on all major wind OEM wind turbines on multi megawatt platforms throughout N. America.
Responsibilities:- Travel extensively with little or no notice to customer wind farm sites
- Embody Safety culture and possess a high level of technical expertise
- Schedule cranes, crews, trucking, and parts for various large and small repair operations
- Have technical experience for commissioning, controls interface and troubleshooting purposes across multiple OEM’s
- Create and follow electrical work plans
- Qualified to write equipment specific LOTO procedures
- Act as the primary customer interface and relay interactions to their leadership
- Initiate and perform high competency tasks as well as follow defined instructions and schedules
- Perform installation tasks and have a high proficiency in torqueing, calibration, and use of hydraulic, power and hand tools.
- Proficient in crane signaling and competency with industry approved rigging practices
- Read and comprehend schematics, work instructions and safety protocols
- Understand and follow lift plans
- Work with Field Engineer and/or director of Field Ops for scheduling, parts and consumables needs
- Create technician development plans
- Identify and drive equipment and tooling development and or processes
- Develop budgets and drive proficiency in bidding processes
- Work with field team to ensure continuity of jobs for parts, tooling, manpower and procedures
- Review reports for accuracy and work with teams to ensure safety, quality, and productivity
- Be able to develop and write work procedures
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School or GED, Associate wind degree, OEM certificate, bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
- On the job; wind school preferred, OEM specific training
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Proficient knowledge of basic construction; mechanical inclination; schematic reading and comprehension, hydraulic tensioning, torqueing, fastener/bolting, hydraulic cylinders, office proficiency with Word and Excel. Strong interpersonal skills
- In addition to a general ability to climb ladder systems to top heights of a wind turbine nacelle, often with tools and equipment in tow, the following requirements must be met:
- Able to lift / Carry materials that are an average weight of (35) pounds, up to (70) pounds 8-10 Hours Daily, from waist, shoulder or even above shoulders
- Requires individual to communicate via hearing, speaking and seeing throughout the day
- Must be comfortable with heights (260 feet or more) and confined spaces
- Able to Sit or be in a stationary position at times 8-10 hours daily
- Capable of Standing, Walking and Climbing as much as 8-10 Hours Daily
- Reaching/Positioning Self as frequently as 8-10 Hours Daily
- Lifting/Transporting 8-10 Hours Daily
- Ability to operate hand controls as much as 8-10 Hours Daily. This includes
- *Finger Manipulation
- *Repetitive Motions
- Able to tolerate exposure to weather (ranging from hot, cold, rain, sun, snow) up to 8-10 Hours Daily
- Ability to meet OSHA weight requirements for ladder climbing of 250-300 pounds, determined by considering the total weight limits of ladders and rigging harnesses including equipment and tools, as well as the combined weight of any two climbers in a potential rescue situation.
