About the Job
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform PM services on equipment, industrial engines and lift trucks, which includes, but not limited to changing fluids, filters, oil, lube chassis, machine inspections and perform minor repairs as needed.
OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Works with other technicians and assist in various types of repairs. All services are performed in the field as well as in the shop as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Must be able to read, write and understand English and should have basic mechanical understanding of equipment and industrial engines. Ability to use computer to obtain equipment status reports, warranty downloads, review and evaluate warning codes and install software.
EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalent, completed training from a certified technical school pertaining to diesel engines or construction equipment or have at least 3 years of mechanical, construction, or related business experience. Also must have good written and oral communication skills.
EXPERIENCE
Experience in performing maintenance and repairs of an off-highway fleet are preferred. The individual should be able to perform PM services following specified PM worksheet and make minor repairs without supervision. This includes ordering all needed parts from the Parts Department and insuring the parts are charged to a work order. Some menu driven computer experience is helpful.
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Must be familiar with Caterpillar equipment. Needs to be neat, orderly and comply with proper lubricant disposal techniques and should own all tools required to perform the required job.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
In a normal workday a worker must:
- Walk and or stand 5-8 hours on a concrete floor in a shop or outside and maybe a very warm or cold environment.
- Sit 1 - 3 hours.
- 50 lb weight lifting restriction.
- Use hands for simple grasping, pushing and pulling and fine manipulation.
- Use feet frequently in a repetitive movement.
- Frequently bend, squat and climb.
- Have the physical ability to work in any position on a piece of equipment and the stamina to torque a series of bolts.
- Be willing to be exposed to grease, oil and dirt.
- Be willing to work in various environments and conditions.
- Be willing to work overtime, if needed.
- Have and maintain a good and safe driving record.
- Be willing to be gone for extended periods of time, spending the nights in motels.
