General Description:
The "Field Erection Superintendent" supervises and coordinates the activity of the "Steel Erection Foreman," "Ironworkers," laborers, and other
steel related craft workers.
Reporting:
This position is hired by and reports directly to the "Field Operations Manager."
Tasks, Abilities and Skills:
- Direct work of assigned "Steel Erection Foreman" to ensure project standards for cost, schedule, quality, and safety are met.
- Hire, layoff, terminate, as required to adequately staff the current workload.
- Issue employee corrective action noticed as outlined by company policies/guidelines.
- Assist the "Project Managers" and "Steel Erection Foreman" in the development of work plans and schedules.
- Assist the "Project Manager" in the resource loading of the work plans and schedules to include manpower, tools, equipment, and
materials.
- Performance management of craft workers (foreman, ironworkers, labors)
- Effective organization and direction of personnel with their area of responsibility
- Implementation and compliance enforcement of project safety programs and work rules.
- Acquiring and maintaining in depth knowledge and understanding of the technical installation requirements for the work under their
supervision, to include drawings, specifications, procedures, and cost.
- Assuring that work under their supervision is accomplished in accordance with the latest revision of the applicable technical
documents and to the established quality standards.
- Maintaining a current knowledge of the status of work, manpower, equipment, and materials under their supervision.
- Verification and reporting of installed quantities
- Attending and participating in project meetings, including cost, schedule, and safety
- Verification and approval of daily timesheets
- Inspects quality of all work, on a periodic basis, to ensure conformance with company and project standards.
- Assist workers in their performance of assigned duties.
- Analyze and resolve work related problems.
- Manage all field equipment to ensure proper cost utilization and maintenance.
- Maintain time and tracks production.
- Interpret and enforce company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations and other company policies to their employees.
- May study schedules and estimate worker hour requirements for completion of job.
- Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned
personnel.
- Perform Quality Control inspections listed in the "QC Inspector" job description.
Tools and Technology Requirements:
- Possess at minimum the following tools: bolt bag, spud wrench, bull pins, weld hood (applicable to welders only),
tape measure, plumb bob, cheater bar, pliers, clamps, hammers, Bessie clamps, vise grips.
- Knowledge of applicable and proper use for the following: transit, laser lever, torpedo, torque guns, welders, gas
supplied equipment, rigging, and their general maintenance.
- Possess a working knowledge and understanding of computers and the following programs: Microsoft word, excel,
and basic scheduling software.
Travel and Work Hours:
The "Field Superintendent" must maintain a current and valid driver's license as traveling to the various projects is part of their responsibility.
Most of the travel is day travel, but certain jobs may require an overnight stay. At minimum, the "Field Erection Superintendent" is required to
work a normal forty (40) hour work week but may be required to work additional overtime and/or Saturdays and Sundays if required to
effectively assist and manage the division's operations.
