JOB STATEMENT
The Family Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare to patients of the clinic with the established standard principles of medical practice. The health center is dedicated to caring for the community by providing excellent healthcare services and improving the quality of life for all persons.
JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides comprehensive and acceptable medical services to individuals of all ages, following current practice guidelines.
- Ensures the provision of timely follow-up care and services as required.
- Refers patients to appropriate recognized medical specialist as necessary, providing complete clinical information for care and diagnostic procedures that cannot be adequately provided onsite.
- Adheres to the highest standards of medical practice, ethics, and professionalism at all times.
- Utilizes the center’s Electronic Health Records for timely documentation of all patient related care.
- Participates in quality improvement projects including peer review, adheres to QI policies and procedures, especially chart audit requirements.
- Identifies risk management issues and brings to the attention of the Chief Medical Officer.
- Attends internal and external meetings, workshops and conferences, as necessary to maintain continuing medical education requirements and/or as required by the Health Center.
- Performs other tasks as required by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
- Graduate from accredited Advanced Practice Nursing Program
- Specialized Training/Certifications/Licenses
- Completion of residency program at an accredited healthcare institution
- Board Certified or Board Eligible as Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
- Active RN/NP License for the State of Texas (in good standing)
- Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
- Continuing medical education units - as applicable
- Current BCLS/CPR Certification
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner giving direct patient care- preferred
- Knowledge:
- Proficient understanding of Public Health
- Familiarity with urban health care delivery systems
- Medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
- Fluent in Spanish, a plus.

- Must be able to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language.
- Must be able to lift 20 lbs. unassisted
- Must have full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients as applicable.
- Must have manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
- Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust visual focus.
- Other:
- Must have evidence of current and adequate liability insurance coverage or be eligible for coverage under Federal Tort Claims Act coverage.
- Must be able to periodically work some Saturdays.
- May require some local travel between clinic locations or infrequent overnight travel.
- Must be able to maintain required immunizations as required by the organization.
