POSITION SUMMARY
This position is responsible forteaching at Noorda College of Osteopathic Medicine as required. This positionfulfills duties to further the mission of the department and college byparticipating in student education, student counseling, scholarly activities,and service. Faculty members are encouraged to conduct originalresearch/scholarly activities and pursue extramural funding in their areas ofinterest.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Serves as an educator ensuring thequality, integrity, and defined standards within faculty's discipline.
- Develops and delivers content inBiomedical Sciences relevant courses/modules.
- Ensures teaching is current andappropriate for the context of the curriculum and increases studentunderstanding of subject matter.
- Remain available when content isactive during office hours, visiting pod groups, answering questions viauniversity messaging software (email, teams).
- Develop and refine a bank ofrelevant midterm/final exam questions, daily quiz questions, quick checkquestions, pod activities and cycles reviews for relevant material and content.
- Provide curricular structure andexperiences that integrate emerging knowledge with practical longitudinalclinical experience, aligning curriculum and process to prepare learners forthe fast-paced evolution of biomedical advances.
- Works effectively as a team memberto enhance and improve curricula, including potential opportunities forcollaborative efforts within the department or with outside individuals,programs, or departments, maintaining a climate hospitable to creativity andinnovation.
- Develops and maintains a workingknowledge of various teaching and assessment approaches (small group, bedsideteaching, mentoring, lecture, independent practice-based learning, evidencedbased medicine approach, simulation including institutional simulation, onlinelearning and interactive video scenario, standardized patient, case-basedteaching, flipped classroom, etc.).
- Provides effective, active supportas advisor and mentor (students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduateresidents/fellows, and /or faculty-peers, clubs, societies and organizations),fulfills duties and responsibilities as coach/mentor to assigned students.
- Accomplishes annual professionaldevelopment requirements (college-wide, human resources, track focused, etc.)structured to support the mission of the College.
- Participates in research andscholarly activities.
- Collaborates with and/or mentors’staff and students (internal or external) in the development of researchquestions and implementation of research projects. Responsibilities includeorganizing ideas, formulating conceptual models, brainstorming on the bestresearch design and methods, attaining IRB approval, and collecting, analyzingand synthesizing data in an effort to support scholarly activities such as preparingmanuscripts for publication; presenting findings at local, national andinternational conferences; and submitting grant proposals to intramural andextramural grant programs in an effort to successfully secure research fundingand to develop and maintain positive rapport with funding agencies, etc.
- Represents Noorda-COM and the BMSDepartment at local, regional, national, and international meetings,conferences, and events when presenting research.
- Facilitates and/or contributestowards interdepartmental research collaborations.
- Actively engages in theadvancement of the College through professionalism and service.
- Builds collaborative partnershipopportunities across and among various entities participating in networkingopportunities, (internal and external partners [elected officials, stateconstitutional officers, business and community leaders] other colleges anduniversities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.) promoting relationshipswith the College.
- Refers to and coordinates inadvance with the Communications team in the Office of the President on allmedia contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message,promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, contentexpert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College.
- Coordination in advance with theCommunications team in the Office of the President on all Noorda-COM relatedlegislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and localgovernment officials, in which asked to serve as an official representative,content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the College.
- Serves on various committees andteams within the College as assigned (attending meetings, contributing todiscussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents towardgoal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (students, clubs, campusorganizations).
- Contributes to College'scompliance with and in the development of required documentation as related toaccreditation of the College to which departmental content is contributed(faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review,providing input/feedback, etc.), aiding in the attainment of academiccompliance.
- Participates in the production ofvarious College materials [academic calendar, strategic planning, directory,College website, etc.] (collecting/preparing materials, organizing/formattingdata, adhering to various deadlines, reviewing drafts, providinginput/feedback, etc.).
- Contributes to the College'sreputation/image of being one of the best osteopathic medical colleges(monitoring outcomes, partnering with internal and external stakeholders,modifying techniques, etc.).
- Is knowledgeable of and remains incompliance with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in theEmployee Handbook for Noorda-COM College.
- Contributes to team effort byperforming other duties as needed/assigned.
- Participates in interviewingprospective students each application cycle, as well as additional dutiesrelating to prospective students such as calls/communication to acceptedstudents.
- Volunteering to help with schoolsponsored events e.g. Orientation, Whitecoat Ceremony, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Advanced degree (PhD, DO or MD) inBiochemistry or another appropriate health related science. US citizenship orpermanent residency is required.
Experience:
- Teaching: Candidates should haveexperience in teaching osteopathic medical, allied health and/ or graduatestudents, preference will be given to those with experience specifically in anosteopathic program, and those with active learning experience.
- Research: Demonstration ofeffective performance in research.
- Presenting posters or abstracts atlocal, state, or national conferences.
- Presenting lectures at local,state, or national conferences.
- Participating as a principalinvestigator or co-investigator in extramural research grants, contracts ortraining grants.
- Evidence of effective, consistentmentoring of students, pre-doctoral fellows, post-graduate residents/fellows,and /or faculty-peers.
- Service: Demonstration ofinvolvement in intramural and/or extramural committee service including:
- Consistent membership in multiple concurrentcommittees, working to advance or promote the mission and vision of the collegeor department.
- Leadership role (chair, vice-chair,etc.) highly recommended but not required.
