Who We Are Looking For
The Fabrication Shop Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates and proposals for welding and fabrication projects. This role requires a deep understanding of welding techniques, materials, and fabrication processes to ensure precise and efficient project execution.
What You’ll Get to Do
- Analyze project specifications, blueprints, and drawings to determine the scope of work.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment required for fabrication and welding projects.
- Collaborate with project/construction managers, engineers, and clients to gather necessary information and clarify project requirements.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials and welding techniques based on project needs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
- Prepare and present proposals and/or estimates to clients, ensuring all aspects of the project are clearly communicated using estimating and proposal templates.
- Monitor project costs and provide updates to ensure projects stay within budget.
- Assist in the preparation of project schedules and timelines and enter data into our Deltek Vision business system for tracking.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, proposals, and project documentation on corporate drives utilizing corporate filing structure.
- Identify ways to continually improve cost-estimating procedures to reduce inconsistencies between estimated and actual project costs.
- Provide viable solutions to increase project profitability.
- Work closely with the machining estimator to determine feasibility/profitability of in-house vs outsourced parts.
What You Bring to the Team
- Proven experience as a Fabrication Shop Estimator or similar role in the welding and fabrication industry.
- Strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, and fabrication processes.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail oriented and ability to multi-task, managing the status of several quotes simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in welding or fabrication.
- Experience with CAD software.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations.
Compensation Range
The annual salary for this position is expected to be between $80,000to $95,000 plus participation in our annual bonus plan and long-term incentive plan. The actual pay may be outside this range depending on your qualifications and experience.
Location Requirements:
The is an onsite position based in our shop in Rochester, NY. There is much collaboration with other roles in the facility. There is minimal travel to customer locations, most of which is local to Rochester.
