Fabrication Operations Manager - Kinsley Steel, Inc.

General Description:

The Fabrication Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the company's structural steel fabrication operations in York, PA and Richmond VA.

Reporting:

This position is hired by and reports directly to the "General Manager."

Responsibilities:

• Oversee and coordinate day-to-day operations of the 4 steel fabrication facilities, ensuring efficiency and productivity.
• Manage and lead a team of production supervisors, quality control inspectors, fitters, welders, machinists, and support staff.
• Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize manufacturing processes and meet production targets.
• Liaise with other departments, such as sales and logistics, to facilitate seamless coordination across the organization.
• Monitor and enforce safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for all employees.
• Maintain a fabrication schedule for all shop operations
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee development within the fabrication team.
• Collaborate with the Shop Teams and the GM to improve fabrication techniques and streamline production workflows.
• Implement cost-effective measures to enhance operational efficiency without compromising quality.
• Collaborate with the QC Manager on the state of the operations QA/QC and conduct regular quality control inspections to uphold high standards of product excellence.
• Read specifications and drawings to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required
• Coordinate with procurement to ensure timelyavailability of raw materials and inventory management.
• Monitor Production Costs and assist the PM Team with Work In Process cost projections.
• Evaluate project budgets, production costs, and provide feedback to the GM and Estimating Manager
• Document and maintain correspondence between all parties to ensure a thorough and organized paper trail.
• Issue corrective action notices to employees within the fabrication operation, as required, to enforce company and/or project guidelines/policies as they relate to Safety, HR, QA/QC, Attendance and Production

Requirements:

• Proven experience in a managerial role within a steel fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, equipment, and industry standards.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams.
• Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
• Proficient in project management and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with relevant safety regulations and best practices.
• Effective communication skills to interact with diverse stakeholders.
• Results-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving production goals.
• Willingness to adapt to changing industry trends and technologies.
• Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Word and Excel is required
• Knowledge and experience using scheduling software (Microsoft Project, Primavera) is preferred
• Knowledge of Tekla PowerFab is not required but a plus
• Knowledge of applicable and proper use for the following: welders, gas supplied equipment, rigging and components
• Posses at minimum the tools as required to measure, verify, and audit basic conformity standards.

Travel and Work Hours:

The "Fabrication Operations Manager" must posses and maintain a current valid driver's license as traveling to the various Fabrication Shops is part of their responsibility. This position is based in York, PA with 3 shop operations in York, PA and 1 in Richmond, VA. Most of the travel is day travel, but certain times require an overnight stay as required to effectively manage and resolve any current or ongoing issues. At minimum, the Position is required to work a fifty (50) hour work week (at minimum, 6:00am- 4:00pm are the required work hours), but may be required to work additional time and/or Saturdays and Sundays if required to effectively manage the fabrication operations.
