This position works under minimal supervision and is responsible for managing the assembly and fabrication process and personnel in a safe and controlled environment. Implement and enforce process controls to ensure that all aspects of each project are coordinated and completed in a timely, efficient, safe and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Demonstrate skills in Fabricating & Assembly of large custom structures and machinery
- Plan, schedule, and direct all activities related to assembly and fabrication
- Work from blueprints and technical drawings
- Plan production operations, while establishing priorities and sequencing for manufacturing products
- Prepare operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meets specifications
- Develop shop schedule and ensure projects are completed accordingly
- Ensure fabricated products consistently conform to establish standards and project specific, AWS and customer requirements
- Accountable for Welding/Fabrication Department’s productivity, quality and efficiency by measuring/monitoring performance and requesting additional resources such as personnel, tools, equipment, etc.
- Monitors performance to track progress
- Monitors scheduled vs. actual work to ensure that targets are met
- Assigns/adjusts schedules and/or personnel to balance and expedite work
- Effectively communicate departmental and company wide goals to employees in a productive manner
- Coordinates and communicates with Engineering and other production departments’
- Consults with Engineering on Job Order BOM (bill of material) and bill of operations configurations to improve manufacturing efficiency
- Works with engineers to discuss project specifications, pre-fabrication opportunities, and other potential cost-savings ideas
- Plans with supply chain to ensure all materials are delivered on time and in full to the welding and fabrication work centers
- Analyzes and reports on KPIs
- Responsible for enforcing all IMS policies and procedures, which includes safety, housekeeping, attendance, quality and administrative
- Works with Human Resources to select, interview and hire personnel and resolve personnel problems by investigating issues and identifying solutions.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- 10+ years of structural steel or closely related production experience
- 5 + years of supervisory experience in Heavy Structural Steel Manufacturing
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Understanding of weld procedure specifications (WPS) and (AWS) processes
- Experience in estimating project pricing and reading drawings/prints in a related field.
