About the Job
We are looking for a part time 20 hours a week Extrusion Process Technician to work onsite in Batavia, IL. In support of the LDRD project "New Plastic Scintillator”, PPD needs a person to assist in sample preparation, sample test and analysis, extrusion runs and injection molding of parts. Under the direction of the PPD staff, the work is expected to consist of the following:
• Prepare scintillator samples for light yield measurement.
o Measure samples using existing system and record data in excel.
• Prepare coating samples for reflectivity measurements.
o Measure samples using existing system and record data in excel.
• Support operation of the extrusion line. o Assist in both the running of the extrusion line and QC of the resultant parts.
• Support operation of the injection molding of parts.
o Assist in both the running of the injection molder and QC of the resultant parts.
Qualifications:
We are interested in technicians who have at least 3-years' experience in the polymer industry. A candidate with work experience in one or more of these areas is desired:
• Profile extrusion, including line operation and die and sizer design fundamentals.
• Injection molding, including machine operation and mold design.
• Plastics testing and analysis.
• The individual should have basic skills in the use of computers.
Expected deliverables:
• Report to the PI of the LDRD on activities and results from tests and measurements.
Expected duration:
The position will be part time (average 20 hours per week) for one year.
