Title: Cheerleading Coach/Pep Director
Qualifications: Teaching certificate preferred. Min Require. No college credit – Completion of ASEP First Aid Course Cheerleading experience desired
Reports to: Activities Director.
Supervises: Cheerleading sponsors and cheerleaders
Job Goal: To advise and lead the cheerleaders so that they function as effectively as possible to instill school spirit at athletic events.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the directing, supervising and sequential training of the cheerleaders.
- Responsible for the conduct of the cheerleaders at practice sessions and at contest.
- Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by the staff.
- Develop a schedule for both practices and performances that will be followed by all sponsors and squads.
- Leads and directs the cheerleaders in such a way as to encourage good sportsmanship by example and leadership.
- Develop a budget that meets the needs of all squads and promotes a positive image of the Hazelwood School District. Gives input on new uniform purchases for all squads.
- Responsible for uniforms and supplies. (distribution and collection)
- Give constant attention to student athlete’s grades and conduct.
- See that the cheerleaders carry out all the duties set forth in their constitution.
- Coordinate and conduct a one week clinic for tryouts of cheerleaders in the spring of the year and arranges for all judges for the tryouts.
- Must be present or have a sponsor present at all varsity, junior varsity and freshmen football games. Must be present or have a sponsor present at all boy’s and girl’s basketball games and boy’s soccer games. Will also make sure varsity squad is at all district basketball games.
- Participate in Homecoming parade and other activities where cheerleaders may be needed. Make sure all squads are represented at this function.
- Involved in planning, administering and performing at pep assemblies during the school year.
- Trains and informs staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local policy.
- Promotes the sport within the school by recruiting athletes that are not participating in sports.
- Maintains good public relations with the community, boosters club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
- Performs such other duties relating to cheerleaders which may be assigned by the athletic administrator/principal.
Salary Schedule: MS club stipends limited to 30% of base; MS sports added 22-23: E-Sports, Step/Dance, Football, Soccer. Individuals will be placed at the cell corresponding to their total years of equal experience in the sport or activity. 2024-2025, 2025-2026, and 2026-2027 - All employees on the extra duty schedule that continue in the same position will advance one step every year.
