Position Overview: The Veterinary Assistant supports the hospital by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and extraordinary service to our patients and clients. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will fully assist the DVMs and RVTs to help improve the quality of care to the patients by relieving them of technical work and achieving greater efficiency at Alpine Animal Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Use your clinical skills to provide the highest level of care
- Obtain health history from clients and handle patients for examination
- Complete lab work as required
- Take radiographs as directed and have an understanding of positioning and radiation safety
- Perform intravenous catheter placement and assist in collecting samples for diagnostics
- Use correct veterinary terminology to complete medical records and provide instruction and information to clients
- Proper drug calculations
- Administer injections and other treatments as directed
- Monitor anesthesia and prepare patients for surgery
- Perform dental prophylaxis and dental imaging
- Fill prescriptions for patients and have an understanding of commonly used medications
- Client education
- Perform duties as directed by leadership
- Cleanliness and organization throughout work areas
- Be a strong patient advocate
- Be a dynamic team player and communicator
Qualifications and Skills:
- At least 1 year of experience performing above duties
- Confidence with anesthesia monitoring, dental assisting, and pre/post op care
- High School Diploma/GED
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs and calculations
- Able to perform moderately physically demanding work, that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds), cleaning, and constant motion
- Ability to work with or around sick animals, potentially hazardous materials, cleaning chemicals, gas anesthetics, zoonotic diseases, and unpleasant odors
Available Schedule: Full-time position
- We are open: Monday-Friday 8:00am-6:00pm
- Closed Saturdays and Sundays
