Job Summary: As a Cook in our long-term care facility, you will be responsible for assisting in the preparation and serving of meals to our residents. Your primary goal will be to ensure that meals are nutritious, delicious, and meet the dietary requirements and preferences of our residents. You will work under the direction of the head chef or dietary manager to maintain high standards of food quality, safety, and cleanliness in the kitchen.

Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Assist in the preparation of meals according to planned menus, recipes, and portion guidelines. This includes cooking, baking, grilling, and other food preparation tasks as assigned.
Dietary Compliance: Ensure that all meals adhere to residents' dietary restrictions, allergies, and special dietary needs as directed by healthcare professionals. Familiarize yourself with residents' dietary profiles and ensure that meals are prepared accordingly.
Food Safety and Sanitation: Follow proper food safety and sanitation procedures at all times, including but not limited to, washing hands, wearing gloves, maintaining clean work surfaces, and adhering to temperature control guidelines. Participate in regular kitchen cleaning and maintenance activities.
Menu Planning: Collaborate with the head chef or dietary manager in planning menus that meet residents' nutritional requirements and preferences. Provide input on menu ideas, special dietary considerations, and resident feedback.
Inventory Management: Assist in monitoring kitchen inventory levels, including food and supplies. Notify the head chef or dietary manager of any shortages or discrepancies in a timely manner. Help with receiving and storing food deliveries as needed.
Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, dietary aides, and other team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Communicate effectively with colleagues to coordinate meal preparation and service.
Adherence to Regulations: Maintain compliance with all relevant regulations, including health and safety standards, sanitation guidelines, and food service regulations. Stay informed about changes in regulations and update practices accordingly.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; culinary or food service certification is a plus.
Previous experience in a food service or kitchen environment, preferably in a healthcare or long-term care setting.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices, including HACCP principles.
Understanding of special dietary needs and restrictions, including therapeutic diets.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and accuracy in food preparation and portioning.
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
