Departmental Overview
Recreation & Wellbeing (RecWell) within Health & Wellbeing in the Division of Student Affairs provides UC Berkeley students, faculty, staff, and alumni, as well as the broader community, with a wide range of recreational activities. RecWell aspires to be at the forefront of collegiate recreation and campus well-being.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) oversees the management, leadership, and day-to-day operations of Recreation & Wellbeing (RecWell). The ED manages approximately eight direct reports and oversees Competitive Sports Programs, Fitness, Youth Programs, Aquatics, Cal Adventures, and Recreation Facilities and Operations. Additionally, RecWell is supported by approximately 850 professional and student staff.
Responsibilities
30% - Organizational Management and Leadership
- Provide operational guidance and direction for achieving organizational objectives.
- Make decisions on allocating resources.
- Create a sustainable funding model.
- Develop and implement a strategic vision for RecWell.
- Lead and manage a diverse team.
- Ensure equitable access to services.
25% - Strategic Partnerships and Relationship Development
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships.
- Articulate defined vision and needs of RecWell.
20% - Facility and Operations Management
- Manage recreation centers and fitness facilities.
- Coordinate renovations and upgrades.
20% - Risk and Liability Management
- Ensure compliance with safety and health standards.
- Develop risk management strategies.
5% - Professional Development and Other Duties as Assigned
- Engagement with UC system and professional associations.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience overseeing a campus recreation program.
- Excellent leadership abilities.
- Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and risk management.
- Deep understanding of recreation program design.
- Ability to manage emergency situations.
- Advanced project management skills.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education or Recreational Management.
Salary & Benefits
Budgeted salary range: $160,000.00 - $190,000.00.
