Our client, a well-established organization in the healthcare and insurance sector, is seeking an Executive Director, Actuary to lead actuarial initiatives and support the company’s strategic goals. This role involves ensuring actuarial soundness, analyzing claims trends, managing risk assessments, and contributing to financial filings and budgeting processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in healthcare actuarial functions, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Actuarial Leadership:
- Oversee actuarial soundness and use actuarial knowledge to improve profitability across health plan lines of business.
- Manage actuarial filings, including Statements of Actuarial Opinion, ACA Marketplace rate filings, and annual Medicare bids.
- Trend Analysis:
- Monitor claims trends and investigate anomalies.
- Track member risk scores and support risk adjustment analyses.
- Perform ongoing analysis of utilization trends to support operational decisions.
- Collaboration and Coordination:
- Work with external consultants and internal teams on Medicare Advantage rate filings.
- Assess Texas Health & Human Services Commission (HHSC) Medicaid rate development.
- Financial Support:
- Contribute to the annual budget process and review work papers of other finance staff.
- Provide ad hoc reporting assistance to executive management as needed.
- Regulatory Interaction:
- Engage with state or federal regulators, including CMS and other regulatory or auditing entities.
Qualifications
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in the actuarial industry.
- At least 5 years of actuarial experience in healthcare, including Medicaid, Commercial, or Medicare Advantage lines.
- Preferred: 3+ years of management experience and familiarity with managed care and state/federal government programs.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and SAS.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in claims trends, reserving, forecasting, and pricing.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical results effectively.
- Certifications:
- Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $150,000–$200,000 per year.
