If you want to advance, we can train you on what you need. Or, if you’d like to advance your career as part of the pipe crew, you’ll have opportunities to progress to a Tailman, Hillman, Pipelayer and ultimately a Pipe Foreman.
When you join our team, you’ll have the opportunity to go through our own Petticoat-Schmitt training and certification for pipelayers. You’ll also get ongoing training and opportunities for future advancement.

Our work includes construction services for public works, water resources, wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), and site development. Requirements for the Excavator Operator Position at Petticoat-Schmitt:
- At least 3 years’ experience working as an excavator operator and working with a pipe crew, and/or underground utilities.
- Experience excavating for and installing large pipes for underground utilities including water, storm, and sewer.
- Experience working with large-diameter pipes in commercial construction.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed.
- Must be willing to undergo a background check.
