General Statement of Job
The Event Technical Specialist oversees audio, visual, and technical support for events on the MSSU campus and official events hosted off-campus. The Event Technical Specialist is also responsible for the maintenance of AV equipment in various event venues and auditoriums on campus and the supervision of Student Workers on the IT Event Support team.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
- Provides direct technical support to internal and external customers of campus event spaces.
- Supervises and provides training for the Event Support Student Technicians within the IT Department.
- Determines staffing requirements for event technical support, and coordinates staff scheduling with the Manager of End User Services.
- Operates and specifies maintenance tasks for lighting equipment in campus event venues.
- Operates, maintains, and specifies maintenance tasks for sound equipment in campus event venues and athletic facilities.
- Operates and maintains projection equipment for campus event venues.
- Assists Broadcast Engineer with video production and livestreaming to facilitate athletic broadcasts, Board of Governors meeting recordings, and as required for other campus events.
- Coordinates with University Facilities and other University departments when physical assets are needed to support the event such as risers, staging, bleachers, acoustic sound shell, etc.
- Repairs, inspects, cleans, and installs equipment.
- Acts as technical consultant to outside promoters and organizations.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of technology in campus event spaces.
- Coordinates with appropriate staff to load in and load out equipment necessary to support events.
- Specifies replacements or upgrades as necessary for campus AV equipment.
- Performs campus support for all audio and video needs. Set up and install equipment such as microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors, audio and video cabling, sound systems and mixing boards for events and functions such as concerts, sports events, meetings and conventions, presentations, and news conferences.
- Maintains inventory of cables and equipment to support various event needs.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Education, Experience, and Licenses
Experience operating professional audio and video equipment is required.
Two plus years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Driver's License and the ability to meet insurance requirements for driving university provided vehicles.
