Job Summary
This role is the intermediate level position in the Electric Transmission Field Inspector Series responsible for Quality Assurance. The main function of this position will be to perform basic and routine verifications under direct supervision or work leader oversight. Candidates in this role will be responsible for either the correct installation of equipment in substations and transmission lines, or related system protection areas of Electric Transmission.
The successful candidate will:
- Evaluate equipment for proper installation
- Inspect routine in-service and out-of-service equipment. Assignments will be based on moderate complexity.
- Provide technical oversight for intermediate project closeouts, pre-energization. Assist Senior/Lead Inspectors in the completion of additional project closeouts as needed.
- Document field equipment ratings, correct and update field copies of documentation, and provide them to Electric Transmission Quality Assurance Engineering to resolve/discuss intermediate issues and discrepancies discovered during construction and work activities.
- Collaborate with project and field teams to address basic and routine issues identified. Assists Senior/Lead Field Inspectors in the coordination of corrective activities regarding issues discovered. Activities may require assisting the field with the development of corrective action plans. Performance of these activities require knowledge of transmission construction and material standards and ensure equipment is installed in accordance with Dominion Energy engineering design.
There is one position which will be filled at the level commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
- ET Field Inspector II: 3+ years of directly related experience
- ET Field Inspector III: 5+ years of directly related experience
- Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications.
- Applies working knowledge and technical skills of electric transmissions and substation construction or System Protection to perform intermediate-level or highly complex to include familiaritywith Substation and T-line QA/QC walkdown procedures..
- General understanding NERC FAC-008-5 standards.
- Recognize the hazards associated with and working around energized equipment.
- Knowledge of Dominion's SWRI System Walkdown Reliability Initiative
- Knowledge of construction, operations, and maintenance of transmission lines and substations or knowledge of maintenance of control circuits, protective relay applications and substation equipment; testing electro-mechanical based relays; micro-processor-based relay technology including logic diagrams, variable equations, and communication interfaces; SCADA data communication equipment interfaces necessary to provide Operating Centers with critical station telemetry; Protocols using mediums such as Serial, TCP/IP and/or Fiber Optics.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- Skills: strong written and verbal communication; Project management. Works under direct supervision or work leader oversight.
- Works under tight deadlines and pressure situations; adapt to changing conditions and demands.
- Reads and understands technical specifications.
- Plans and organizes basic and routine to highly complex substation construction projects or test intermediately complex protective relays, remote terminal units, power line carrier and metering applications; assist technicians in major control installations.
- Evaluates basic and routine to highly complex problems; demonstrates basic analytical and conceptual thinking.
- Physical attributes required to perform essential functions of the job: lifting to include carrying heavy test equipment, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, prolonged standing and manual dexterity. This position will require that you operate a Dominion Energy vehicle or operate a vehicle on behalf of Dominion Energy. Due to equipment weight limits, individuals in this role have a weight restriction of 290 pounds.
