Role Overview

As an Estimator at Smith & Sell Construction, you'll be responsible for providing accurate cost estimates that lay the foundation for project success. You will work closely with Project Managers and clients to assess project requirements, calculate material and labor costs, and analyze data to develop thorough, competitive bids. With a strong focus on accuracy and efficiency, you'll be key to helping our team deliver on time and within budget.

Each day, you'll use your analytical skills to estimate costs, identify potential risks, and refine project details. You'll also play a collaborative role, coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, and updating project data to help streamline the project management process.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop Accurate Estimates: Review project documents, architectural drawings, and specifications to produce detailed cost estimates.
• Coordinate with Teams: Work closely with Project Managers and other departments to ensure accurate and comprehensive estimates.
• Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers to gather reliable cost information and update project estimates.
• Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges and incorporate contingencies into cost estimates.
• Client Engagement: Participate in initial project meetings and discussions to understand client needs and expectations, providing transparent insights into costs and timelines.
• Data Management: Maintain updated records of material costs, labor rates, and other essential data to improve estimation accuracy over time.
• Project Documentation: Prepare and manage estimation documentation, including proposals, cost breakdowns, and reports.

What We're Looking For

• Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will also be considered.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years in construction estimating, ideally in both residential and commercial projects.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimation software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Buildertrend is a plus.
• Analytical Mindset: Strong attention to detail with the ability to analyze data, read plans, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a knack for explaining complex information clearly to clients and teams.
• Collaboration & Flexibility: Works well with other departments, vendors, and clients; open to feedback and willing to adjust estimates as needed.
• Remote Flexibility: Able to work remotely with occasional visits to project sites when necessary.

• This position is commission-based to start, no cap on earnings with the possibility of making over $150,000/year.
