Job Details
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Estimator to join our innovative construction team. This position plays a pivotal role in the planning and execution of construction projects. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for calculating accurate project costs, preparing budget proposals, and managing subcontractors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in substation estimating or electrical utilities estimating.
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and performing quantity take-offs for select trades.
2. Review construction design drawings and understand the scope of work to bid.
3. Manage the bidding process from preparing the bid to closing the bid.
4. Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure comprehensive coverage of all scopes of work.
5. Analyze subcontractor proposals for completeness, price, and scope.
6. Prepare and present cost/budget information to the client or project team.
7. Utilize value engineering strategies to identify cost-saving and cost-reducing opportunities.
8. Conduct risk assessment to identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
9. Collaborate with project managers and construction managers to develop a project schedule.
10. Participate in contract negotiations to ensure favorable terms.
11. Continually update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of 3 years of experience in substation estimating or electrical utilities estimating.
2. Proven experience in construction management, project management, and contract management.
3. Demonstrated ability to prepare accurate budgets, cost estimates, and project bids.
4. Proficient in value engineering and cost analysis.
5. Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and legal requirements.
6. Excellent risk assessment skills with the ability to identify potential risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
7. Proven experience in scheduling, subcontracting, and managing suppliers.
8. Strong negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable contract terms.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
10. Proficient in using estimating software and other industry-related technology.
11. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
