Overview:
We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to join our team as an Estate Planning Paralegal. This position is within our esteemed firm's Estate Planning team, specializing in Affordable Housing and Community Development, Business Bankruptcy and Creditor's Rights, Business Law, Civil Litigation, and Commercial Lending and Financial Institution Services. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in estate administration and probate, with a strong preference for those with experience in Estate Planning and Probate. Certification as a Notary Public is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Secure documents related to the client’s estate.
- Assist in valuing the assets in the estate.
- Draft estate documents for attorney review, including wills, powers of attorney, healthcare directives, and living wills.
- Prepare documents and assist with creating and transferring assets into trusts to ease the probate process.
- Prepare and file probate documents in the administration of an estate, including petitions, motions, testamentary letters, inventories, accountings, and notices.
- File life insurance claims and other death benefits.
- Contact beneficiaries and next of kin regarding admission of the will and other probate hearings.
- Administer estate accounts and assist with the liquidation and transfer of property.
- Prepare and file the decedent’s final income and tax returns.
- Participate in the administration of guardianships and trusts.
- Assist with name changes and adoption proceedings.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of estate administration/NC probate experience.
- A two-year degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis on business or accounting, or a combination of relevant experience and education preferred.
- Recent law firm experience.
- Ability to prioritize assignments from multiple attorneys.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate appropriately with a diverse group of clients and professionals.
- Working knowledge of accounting and Excel.
- Positive references from current or former employers.
