About the Job
The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for the Equipment Operator in the Drainage section of the Public Works Department.
Purpose of the Job: To operate heavy and light equipment, such as self-propelled grader, excavator, backhoe, dump truck, sewer jet cleaner or utility tractor to construct or maintain thoroughfares, streets, roads, right-of-way, and drainage structures.
Duties: Operates heavy equipment in the maintenance and repair of street and drainage facilities; drives dump truck for the Streets and Drainage section to assist in repairing sidewalks, streets, driveways and ditches; periodically operates backhoe and other tractors, and drives crew trucks to haul other crewmembers, material and equipment to and from the worksite; maintains and repairs streets, curbs, and sidewalks, using a variety of tools and equipment; installs and repairs storm sewers, inlets and storm manholes; operates laser-leveling equipment to determine ditch elevations for grading and maintenance; operates water jet truck to clean culverts and storm sewers; provides emergency response to remove fallen trees, storm debris, assist in emergency repairs and respond to traffic emergencies, after normal business hours; complies with normal safety precautions to prevent injury or accidents to self or others; and performs other duties within the areas of responsibility and ability as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: High School diploma or GED; five to ten years of heavy equipment operation and construction experience; and previous experience to include following or applying routine procedures, policies, and methods earned on the job.
