Equipment Operator II
DESCRIPTION
The Equipment Operator II in the Street Department is responsible for operating and maintaining all heavy machinery and equipment used in street maintenance, repair, and construction activities. This role requires skilled operation of various vehicles and machinery to ensure the efficient and safe completion of projects within the city.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience (1+ year) operating heavy equipment in a construction or municipal setting required.
- Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) Class B is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment safely and effectively, including knowledge of operating controls and safety features.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions often independently and without supervision.
- Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions and environments.
- Effective communication skills to interact professionally with coworkers, supervisors, contractors, members of the public, other organizations, and other city departments.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Operate heavy equipment, such as bulldozers, excavators, loaders, graders, and dump trucks, to perform tasks such as excavation, grading, paving, and material transportation.
- Follow project plans, blueprints, and instructions from supervisors to ensure accurate and precise execution of construction and maintenance tasks.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning, identify any issues or defects requiring repair, and notify the supervisor of mechanical issues immediately.
- Load and unload materials, equipment, and supplies onto vehicles and trucks using appropriate methods and equipment, such as cranes, forklifts, or manual labor.
- Assist in the installation, repair, and replacement of street infrastructure, such as drainage systems, culverts, and utility lines, as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment for oneself and others, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work activities, share information, and address project requirements.
- Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting related to equipment usage, maintenance activities, and project progress.
- Respond to emergency situations, such as natural disasters or severe weather events, to assist in recovery and cleanup efforts as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
This position is an essential service position and will
require providing services during emergency
situations.
PAY
$17.42 per hour
