Located in Claremore OK, Shipman Animal Hospital has been serving the community's animal health care needs for over 45 years. Situated in a new state of the art facility, we are geared to service all aspects of small animal and equine medicine. We are seeking an experienced Sports Medicine Equine Veterinarian to head our equine division. Partnership opportunities are available as our practice continues to grow. This postion focuses on but is not limited to, providing excellence in diagnosis and treatment of equine patients and provide high quality service to their owners/trainers, routine primary care, and specialty performance/lameness care on a day-to-day and emergency basis.
General Duties:
- Develop diagnostic and treatment plans for all musculoskeletal-related injuries that our patients face.
- Help to handle the general medicine cases that are attended at our practice or refer to another veterinarian in the practice.
- Provide excellent customer service to our clients by answering all their questions and concerns regarding their patients within 24 hours or less.
- Do follow up calls with all patients.
- Collaborate with the administrative personnel.
- Schedule efficiently so that production targets are met on time and achieve a healthy work-life balance.
- Monitor your own production and submit purchase orders for commission payments on time.
- Keep up to date on job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional regulations.
- Be a mentor to interns and students.
- Represent the company at events such as horse shows, horse races, and charity events.
Common appointments include, but are not limited to:
- General health/wellness examination
- Vaccination/Coggins appointments
- General emergencies: colic, laceration, etc.
- Dermatologic examination
- Neurologic examination
- Musculoskeletal/performance examination
- Lameness examination
- Pre-purchase/pre-lease examination
- Radiograph review
Common procedures performed include, but are not limited to:
- Nasogastric intubation
- Catheter placement
- Fluid administration
- Minor surgical procedures
- Pre-race and race day injections
- Digital radiography
- Health certificate completion- researching requirements and ensuring owner compliance
Procedures that added to our offerings with the right candidate:
- Ultrasound
- Diagnostic nerve/joint blocks
- Joint injections
- Ultrasound guided intralesional injection
- Acupuncture
- Chiropractic
Competencies Needed for the Job:
- Solid Knowledge in a lameness evaluation
- Experienced and Efficient Musculoskeletal Diagnostician
- Efficient and Confident with joint injections
- Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheets via Google Suite and Microsoft
- Strong communication skills between clients and executive staff
Education:
- DVM, VMD or compatible degree validated in United Stated
- Minimum 3 years experience in private practice
- Sports Medicine Boarded is a plus but not required
- ISELP certification is a plus but not required. The company will pay for courses.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of working with horses are expected
- This position might require travel to horse shows or horse sales
- Should be able to work 40 hours a week and occasionally more
Compensation:
- Compensation is negotiable based on experience. A comprehensive salary plan will be offered upon employment offer.
Schedule:
- Flexibility with alternating schedule throughout the week in fast paced environment
- Hours of operation- 7:30am to 5:00pm (Monday – Friday) with Saturday availability
- Ability to work alternating emergency schedules
