About the Job
A leading chemical company specializing in integrated oxides and derivatives is currently seeking an Environmental Specialist to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, codes, and regulations across air, water, and waste management programs. This position involves coordination with multiple regulatory agencies and their subsidiary programs including OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, SPCC, SWPP, RCRA, LDAR, and others.
Responsibilities:
- The primary responsibility is within the EO/EG Unit at the Celanese facility, with potential support required for other nearby facilities in the Houston area.
- Establish and maintain environmental standards to ensure full compliance with relevant jurisdictional regulations and corporate guidelines.
- Conduct essential reporting tasks such as the Annual Emissions Inventory, SARA Toxic Release Inventory, SARA Tier II, Greenhouse Gas Report, Annual CAP Emissions Report, Annual CAP Spill Report, and Annual Waste Summary.
- Participate in Community Advisory Panel meetings on a monthly basis.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive Environmental Training Programs covering Air, Waste, Wastewater, Storm Water, and SPCC.
- Oversee the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program, including auditing and reviewing monitoring data for compliance, and ensuring updates to piping changes.
- Manage the Waste Management Program, including profiling and inspecting waste.
- Prepare and submit monthly Environmental Metrics Reports to corporate leadership.
- Collaborate effectively with team members from diverse backgrounds.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and ensure all department documentation is current and available for both internal and external audits.
- Engage in training programs that advance industry best practices for the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department.
- Build and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure activities comply with the integrated management system requirements (safety, food safety, GMP, health, environmental, quality, and responsible care).
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of Environmental experience, with 5 – 10 years preferred.
- Knowledge of HON regulations, RCRA, SPCC, Clean Air Act programs, Wastewater, Title V and TRI reporting, air quality regulations, and emission event reporting.
- Experience with air permitting and/or compliance, and TCEQ Regulatory Databases is preferred.
- Previous experience in the petrochemical industry is beneficial.
