Cedarhurst, a regional healthcare provider and true friend of older adults, seeks a service-minded, career-oriented individual to join our team as a full-time Environmental Services Specialist.
As the Environmental Services Specialist, you will have to opportunity to connect with, and positively impact the lives of, our residents daily! You will report directly to the Corporate Director of Environmental Services, you will ensure the provision of quality maintenance care in accordance with Federal, State and Local regulations. You complete this duty while maintaining the exterior and interior of building and grounds safely, and in exceptional appearance and working condition within Cedarhurst communities in the absence of an Environmental Services Director (ESD) and/or Housekeeper. You will also assist with the development and implementation of preventative maintenance in the current Preventative Maintenance software. You will also support the Corporate Director of Environmental Services with Cedarhurst senior living community acquisitions, help educate new & existing ESDs, continually seek innovative solutions, and elevate the skills of our ESDs and ES staff. Environmental Services Specialist, you will seek to increase awareness of Cedarhurst Senior Living and our mission to create communities where each person feels loved, valued, supported, and able to live life to the fullest.
As Environmental Services Specialist, you will impact the lives of our residents by –
- Assists in the execution of preventative maintenance program.
- Communicates with Corporate Director of Environmental Services for needed technical advice, product information, research and quality assurance guidance.
- While supporting a community during Environmental Services vacancy:
- Work under the direction of the Executive Director of the community.
- Perform routine maintenance duties to complete all service requests for repair and maintenance of all grounds, buildings, apartment homes, and equipment in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
- Manage and oversee maintenance and housekeeping staff.
- Implement and document preventative maintenance programs for facility and equipment.
- Maintain grounds including outside building repair and lawn maintenance in cooperation with the landscaping contractor and garbage removal services.
- Maintain all areas inside the building, including but not limited to, cleaning and shampooing of carpets & furniture, window cleaning, common area cleaning, and the maintenance and replacement of vinyl floors.
- Prepare and refurbish apartment for resident move-ins: including, drywall patching, painting, carpet laying, replacement of vinyl floors and installation/replacement of ceiling fans & lighting.
- Maintain life safety and emergency procedures in accordance with regulations & environmental concerns (natural disasters, fire, loss of power, plumbing issues, water pipe breakage, etc.) material safety data sheets (MSDS),
- Schedule and/or perform preventative maintenance and keep quality assurance records up to date.
- Perform janitorial tasks as needed including maintaining common area & resident apartment cleanliness and repair & maintenance of janitorial equipment.
- Transport Residents in company vehicles if needed.
- Advises Supervisor of the overall condition of the equipment and furnishings of the community.
- Obtain quotes from outside vendors on new equipment and contractual jobs.
- Assists with Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness Evacuation procedures.
- Interacts with residents and staff in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Fill in for housekeeping as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
To become Environmental Services Specialist, you will need –
- Associate degree and 2-5 years of experience OR accredited maintenance training and 4-6 years of experience preferred.
- Applicable State licensure, as required.
- Two (2) years of maintenance experience in a senior care community with proven leadership and organizational skills.
- This position requires frequent travel, approximately 65 - 75%. Travel for an extended period may be required, local or overnight. Typically, travel is planned; however, there may be times there is an unplanned, immediate need, for local and/or overnight travel. Ability to stay overnight in a destination for an extended period is required, possibly for several weeks at a time.
- Be a collaborative team player able to establish effective working relationships with team members.
- Possess sound organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and have a strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated communication excellence, verbally and in writing.
- Strong desire to share knowledge & capable of executing an effective training/education program.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Possess an appreciation of seniors and an understanding of the aging process.
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Must have basic technical knowledge and mechanical ability to perform routine maintenance and repair on mechanical and electrical equipment and possess a basic knowledge of construction principles.
- Must exhibit and promote a high level of customer service, hospitality, curiosity and friendliness towards all prospects, residents, visitors, employees and the overall community.

- Great communication and interpersonal skills required along with the heart and passion to work with older adults while providing the best care possible.
- Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations, to be flexible, & work effectively despite potential interruptions.
- Proficiency computer applications such as: Internet browsers (e.g., Explorer, Chrome, and Fire Fox), Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Experience with TELS, or other building management software is preferred.
