FCS is seeking an Environmental Services Intern (CG01) to assist the team with performing analyses, research, and documentation support for Environmental Impact Reports (EIRs) on a variety of subject areas, including land use, socio-economics, earth resources, hydrology, air quality, noise, cultural resources, etc., and provide general administrative support in environmental document preparation. This intern role includes exposure to various areas of environmental consulting services, working with subject matter experts to create a well-rounded solution for our clients.
This role is an evergreen position, meaning we are always looking for talented individuals to join our team. Applications for this position are continuously accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.
This paid internship is available in a hybrid capacity splitting time between remote work and our Walnut Creek location. This role offers flexibility and ensures collaboration and engagement with our on-site team. This position will report to a Project Manager. This is an on-call or part-time seasonal position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers with appropriate research information in order to respond to project documentation requirements.
- Ensure requirements of CEQA and NEPA are met by completing analysis and documentation within specific guidelines.
- Gain practical knowledge of the environmental consulting industry.
- Provide assistance to Project Managers in the preparation, organization, and production of EIRs.
- Incorporate sub-consultant reports and personal research and knowledge into appropriate sections of environmental documents.
- Communicate with various jurisdictions, agencies, and sub-consultants to collect and verify information.
- Conduct field studies and land use surveys.

- Knowledge of and demonstrated facility with written and verbal business English, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary.
- Keen attention to detail

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (In-process) in environmental sciences, Planning, Geography, or a related field
- At least 1 year of experience in Environmental Services (or coursework)
- General understanding of the principles and practices of the environmental consulting industry, including CEQA and/or NEPA and their processing requirements
- Technical competence and understanding of one or more environmental specialties, such as land use, socio-economics, earth resources, hydrology, air, noise, etc.
Work Environment
The position operates in a dynamic and highly collaborative work environment. FCS is dedicated to providing our staff the opportunity to elect hybrid office/in office home working location options. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

Salary: $35,360 – 41,600
