RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, organize, develop and direct the overall operation of the Housekeeping and Laundry Department in accordance with current federal, state and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Executive Director, to ensure that the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary and comfortable manner and to ensure that an adequate supply of laundry and linens are on hand at all times to meet the needs of the residents. If additionally qualified, may cross-train and develop under tutelage of maintenance director.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
Required Skills: Must be able to read and write English fluently and communicate effectively for all administrative and personnel functions. Must have good organization skills and be capable of scheduling, directing and evaluating personnel. Must be familiar with the operation and routine maintenance of laundry and housekeeping machinery. Must possess high standards of cleanliness and knowledge of basic cleaning skills and methods. Must be alert and observant to perform round-making and inspection duties.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Previous commercial or institutional housekeeping experience required. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Demands: Duties require physical stamina and mobility. Must be able to stand on feet and walk approximately 80 to 90 percent of working day. Must be capable of pushing and/or pulling, and lifting. Cleaning duties require deep knee bending and stretching. Will be exposed to cleaning and laundry chemicals on a regular basis as well as warm temperatures in laundry.

- Assure that the facility and laundry areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
- Coordinate daily housekeeping/laundry services with Resident Care Department when performing routine cleaning assignment in resident living or recreational areas.
- Assure that established infection control practices are maintained in housekeeping/laundry departments.
- Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, sanitary and attractive manner.
- Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment.
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly and monthly housekeeping duties.
- Assist in all daily cleaning routines as needed.
- Assist in daily laundry activities as needed.
- Assure that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set-up prior to performing such duties.
- Inventory linens.
- Maintain equipment in proper working condition and document all hazardous conditions or equipment to the supervisor.
- Assure that all equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
- Maintain common area furniture in proper positions.
- Purchase housekeeping/laundry supplies and maintain accurate inventory.
- Interview, hire and train new employees in housekeeping/laundry departments.
- Discipline departmental employees as needed.
- Submit input into operational and capital budget planning.
- Establish work and cleaning schedules.
- Follow established fire safety policies and procedures.
- Report all accident/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor. Such occurrences must be reported in the shift during which they occur.
- Maintain the CONFIDENTIALITY of resident information to insure resident rights are protected.
- Honor the residents’ personal and property rights.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
- Keep work areas free of hazardous objects.
- Attend and participate in in-service educational classes, orientation and job training programs as scheduled.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and glass surfaces
- Restock supplies in restrooms and other areas as necessary
- Adhere to OSHA guidelines and maintain a safe work environment
- Collaborate with the custodial team to ensure efficient and effective cleaning operations
- Assist with other environmental services tasks as assigned
- Will need to ensure clenaing and overall floor maintenance of hard surface and carpet (stripping, waxing, buffing, vacuuming, dust & we mopping, extraction) of areas that include but are not limited to offics, lobby entrances and exits, resident rooms, restrooms, corridors, hallways, common areas, and other public areas.
Individual must have thorough understanding of floor maintenance equipment and procedure with the ability to operate floor machinery while using proper personal protective equipment as required.
