Job Description
AECOM is actively seeking a highly motivated Entry Level Environmental Scientist for employment in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska regions . This position would support the Environmental Permitting and Planning business line on a variety of projects across a diverse set of clients. In this role, you will assist with field studies and data collection related to botany, wetlands, wildlife, fisheries, and vegetation using geographic information systems (GIS) technology. You will also contribute to data quality control review, analysis, and reporting, and serve as a subject matter expert in the preparation of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents.
This hybrid position is for the Pacific Northwest and Alaska region and will be assigned to one of the following AECOM offices: Anchorage, AK, Portland, OR, or Seattle, WA. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or those looking to start their career in environmental science and planning.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Conduct field surveys for vegetation, wildlife, and aquatic species, ensuring accuracy in data collection.
+ Assist in performing weed surveys to identify and assess invasive species within designated areas.
+ Gather, analyze, and interpret ecological data, providing support for project reports and recommendations.
+ Utilize GIS software to map and analyze spatial data, contributing to habitat assessments and environmental impact studies.
+ Collaborate with senior scientists and team members in developing research methodologies and data collection techniques.
+ Participate in the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and documentation for various projects.
+ Maintain accurate records of field observations and data collection processes.
+ Stay informed about current environmental regulations, conservation practices, and scientific advancements in the field.
+ Assist in the preparation and development of Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Assessments, and Biological Assessments.
+ Support the analysis of alternatives and mitigation measures in compliance with NEPA guidelines.
+ Review analytical data for general indicators of quality for routine analyses based on well-defined guidelines.
+ Coordination with task and project managers, working as part of a field team in sometimes remote locations, supporting sampling, data collection, and field documentation.
+ Regular task switching that requires shifting attention and focus between different projects and tasks throughout the workday.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
+ Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, or other related discipline, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
+ Must be able to do day travel regionally and fieldwork. This position may require regular travel within the United States during the spring, summer, and fall for extended periods of time.
+ Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
Preferred Qualifications
+ 1 year of relevant experience.
+ Experience performing invasive weed surveys
+ Proficiency in standard Microsoft office suite software applications.
+ Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS software applications and Geographic Positioning System technology for digital data collection.
+ Database management, GIS, and R software skills
+ Plant identification skills using dichotomous keys and familiarity with the floras of the Pacific Northwest and/or Alaska
+ Ability to demonstrate professional demeanor in written and verbal communications with fellow employees.
+ Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner.
+ Ability to learn through on-the-job experience.
+ Frequent lifting, carrying, and loading equipment without assistance up to 50lbs.
+ Tolerance for work in outdoor environments in a range of weather conditions.
+ Bear safety, CPR/First aid, and/or wilderness safety training.
Additional Information
+ Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.
Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $67,724.80 - $68,000.00.
