Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking an Environmental Scientist to be based in Orlando, FL.
This position is expected to begin as soon as possible.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Environmental Planning and Permitting department with the evaluation and documentation of natural resources.
- Conduct field investigations to identify and assess vegetative assemblages, wildlife, and plant species, including the establishment of the extent of wetland jurisdiction regulated by local, state, and/or federal agencies.
- Prepare technical reports, environmental impact assessments, and permit applications for various environmental projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement environmental management plans and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct environmental site assessments and contamination investigations, including soil and water sampling.
- Analyze and interpret environmental data, using statistical and modeling techniques when appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards at local, state, and federal levels.
- Participate in public meetings and stakeholder consultations to present findings and address environmental concerns.
- Assist in the development of proposals and cost estimates for environmental projects.
- Stay current with emerging environmental technologies, regulations, and best practices in the field.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on environmental matters.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's environmental assessment methodologies and processes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in an Environmental-related field.
- Must have a valid U.S driver’s license and as a condition of employment, must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in an Environmental-related field.
- Previous field experience.
- Working knowledge of wetland assessment methods, including the Uniform Mitigation Assessment Method (UMAM), environmental permitting, and protected species survey requirements.
- Familiarity with fauna and flora indigenous to the southeastern United States, including regulations protecting wetlands and protected species.
- Proficiency with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- This role will involve travel to project sites around Orlando, FL and surrounding area. Knowledge and experience navigating Orlando, FL and surrounding area.
