We are searching for an Environmental Health Specialist to work full time (35 hours per week) Monday through Friday. The Environmental Health Specialist conducts inspections, assesses compliance, and manages environmental health risks for county residents. EHS-ITs (Environmental Health Specialists In-Training) work under supervision, progressing to independent work as a REHS (Registered Environmental Health Specialist) within two years. REHS roles perform independent inspections, manage compliance, and contribute to public health initiatives. This is an impactful role for environmental health professionals dedicated to safeguarding community health through regulation, scientific analysis, and a strong commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Sewage Treatment System (STS) permitting- conducts site and soil application reviews, permit application review/approval/inspection, and evaluations for STS installations and modifications.
- STS Maintenance- reviews real estate transfer inspections of STS and PWS completed by private contractors, ensuring quality control. Performs STS nuisance complaint investigations, stormwater outfall screenings, sampling, and operation inspections of STS.
- Private Water Systems (PWS)- Permit application review/approval/inspection, performs water sampling, dye testing, and complaint investigations to ensure safe water sources.
- Works with public, property owners, and agencies to address environmental hazards, using scientific and regulatory expertise.
- Maintains required continuing education credits and attends training to stay current with regulations.
- Develops and maintains positive community relations and engages in local, state, and federal public health initiatives.
- Maintains effective documentation and reporting for various health programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours in sciences; valid EHS-IT or REHS credential per Ohio Department of Health requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google products, and technical applications relevant to environmental health.
- Valid Ohio driver's license, automobile availability, and insurance.
