ROLE:
Salary Range: $65000 - $75000 / per year
The Environmental, Health and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the highest level of safety for all employees, contractors and visitors as well as the protection of property and environment. The position oversees, ensures and advises as to compliance with local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations and standards. Compliance responsibilities include, but are not limited to: training, policy/procedure development and enforcement, inspections, reporting and appropriate record-keeping. This is a highly collaborative position requiring strong organizational, data management, follow up and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that all incidents, accidents, property damage, fires, unsafe conditions and/or near misses are appropriately reported, investigated and mitigated.
- Review injury, near miss, and property damage reports. Compile and analyze incident data. Prepare recommendations for corrective actions to eliminate or minimize potential hazards.
- Participates in the case management process.
- Identifies, evaluates and mitigates hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace through use of inspections, audits, analysis (hazard, job safety, risk and PPE assessments).
- Assists in the development of controls for identified hazards. Measure, evaluate and make recommendations for improvement with respect to systems, policies and procedures and training methods.
- Develops specialized environmental, health and safety training and train-the trainer programs to ensure education, compliance and the establishment of a safety culture across all levels of the operations facility.
- Create and manage an effective, solution-minded Safety Committee program whose members are a diverse representation of all departments, positions, shifts and length of service.
- Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies, as needed.
- Ensure implementation of the Environmental Management Information System.
- Assist Genpak’s Director of Safety & Environmental with environmental compliance programs and reports related to hazardous wastes, air permitting, water pollution control, risk management plans, process safety management, and community right-to-know programs.
- Work a flexible schedule to ensure visibility to all shifts and departments.
- Be available to assist and make recommendations 24/7 in emergency situations.
- Perform other related duties that correspond to the overall function of this position.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Must have knowledge of the elements of OSHA and EPA regulatory framework as well as the ability to understand and communicate city, county, state and other federal regulations and guidelines, as needed.
Interpersonal/Communication:
- Ability to develop training materials including but not limited to physical demonstrations, Power Point presentations, Word documents, etc.
- Ability to deliver hands on environmental, safety, and health training.
- Ability to quickly and accurately respond to emergency situations in a calm and well-thought-out manner.
- Ability to foster an environment in which employees are comfortable sharing concerns and ideas.
Technical Knowledge:
- Ensure implementation of the Environmental Management Information System.
- Maintain safety training records in the safety office and ensure an appropriate level of confidentiality.
Efficiency:
- Demonstrate ability to initiate and perform root cause analysis and implement corrective action to drive improvement.
- Ability to meet or exceed performance standards and continuously improve upon them.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing workload, and prioritizing tasks.
Quality:
- Ability to read, understand and analyze statistical data and characteristics.
- Ability to correctly utilize gauging equipment.
Compliance & Regulatory:
- Responsible for environmental compliance programs and reports related to hazardous wastes, air permitting, water pollution control, risk management plans, process safety management, and community right-to-know programs. Maintain all environmental compliance records.
- Ensure facility complies with OSHA reporting and recordkeeping, including creating monthly summary reports for upper management.
Safety:
- Demonstrated ability to comply with all Company policies and procedures and to uphold, support and exemplify the safety programs and standards.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience within Environmental, Health & Safety compliance in a manufacturing environment.
- Education or a degree in safety, science or a relevant field a plus.
- Knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with database applications.
