Responsibilities
Job Description Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible to ensure complete compliance with OSHA standards, and for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace. The Safety Manager is responsible for identifying hazards with the goal to ensure the workplace meets all legal expectations and actively supports OSHA. This position requires familiarity with OSHA standards and implementation management practices to ensure compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides leadership in developing measures and practices that prevent accidents and ensure compliance with OSHA standards, to include:
- Continuously monitor the workplace for hazardous safety and health conditions.
- Ensure safety and health hazards are corrected, eliminated, or guarded.
- Assess engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE on an on-going basis
- Ensures managers and supervisors have the appropriate safety and health; accident prevention; and investigation training.
- Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Responsible to stop and prevent unsafe actions including, the use of unsafe equipment and tools.
- Ensure the results of safety inspections are documented; monitor the investigation of accidents and injuries; ensuring that corrective actions are taken; and providing recommendations for ways to prevent similar accidents.
- Investigate all close calls and other safety-related incidents that have occurred within the accident area.
- Ensure that all accident reports are recorded in a timely, complete, and accurate manner.
- Create and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, OSHA, and safety inspections or audits.
- Develop and implement training for manager/supervisors and all employees in work site safety practices.
- Performs safety surveys and inspections, prepares written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
- Responsible for the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
- Maintains safety files and records.
- Responsible for obtaining and maintaining permits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in environmental health and safety)
- Minimum 8-10 years related experience
- Required experience with OSHA regulatory requirements
