Overview:TRC is seeking an entry level Landfill Gas Technician for our Richmond, Virginia Office. The selected candidate will help service projects in the solid waste sector involving landfill gas system design; permitting and compliance; operations, maintenance, and monitoring; renewable natural gas; solid waste and landfill gas system construction; and construction quality assurance. In addition, the applicant will work on a wide range of environmental projects in a team support role. With supervision and direction, apply theory and principles of geology and environmental science to various projects. Regular local travel and field work is required based on project demands. Company truck and phone are provided.
Responsibilities:
- Use a gas monitoring/sampling instruments to monitor landfill gases within wells at landfills.
- Measure methane emissions from the surface of landfills.
- Complete construction related tasks such as raising PVC wells and performing landfill gas system repairs (HDPE pipe).
- Maintain pneumatic pumps throughout the gas collection system well field.
- Wear OSHA Level D and required personal protective monitoring devices, as necessary.
- Troubleshoot, inspect, and repair blower flare equipment and machinery.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems dealing with CPUs, PLCs, automated controls, data loggers, valves, thermocouples, and ignition systems.
- Operate small equipment (power tools) and hand tools.
- Conducts field studies or inspections and evaluations for compliance with permit and regulatory requirements; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews, and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, various regulatory submissions or literature and makes recommendations.
- Prepared monthly reports for clients.
- Performs statistical analysis of data.
- Conducts technical reviews and makes recommendations on permit applications or other various regulatory submissions to ensure compliance with regulations.
- Prepares permits, technical reports and/or enforcement case documents.
- Responds to technical/regulatory inquiries from other state, local and federal agencies as well as public and private organizations or individuals.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Minimum Requirements:
- 1-2 years environmental field experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, geology, chemistry, or related field preferred. An associate degree from a relevant trade school is welcomed.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment across multiple organizational locations.
- Strong safety focus and work ethic.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; Especially Word and Excel preferred.
Some direct work experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
- Construction
- Plumbing
- HVAC
- Electrical
- Solid waste regulations

Compensation: Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
