Key Roles
This position is responsible for designing, planning, or performing engineering duties associated with Environmental Compliance. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation, pollution control technology, landfill, SPCC and environmental project management and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates with staff, CLIENT management, and legal counsel as needed to address environmental opportunities regarding compliance.
- Assists in budget implementation, forecasts, and administration.
- Maintains, writes, and revises environmental documents and procedures for generation and transmission facilities.
- Assists in monitoring and ensuring environmental compliance at CLIENT facilities in regard to all applicable local, state, and federal standards and regulations.
- Assesses and analyzes environmental site data and conditions to resolve regulatory non- compliance. Prepares, updates, develops scope of work, and makes recommendations to CLIENT compliance management.
- Designs, prioritizes, and leads projects and/or initiatives to ensure environmental protection in air quality, water quality, waste recovery or disposal and spill control systems.
- Responsible for all administrative, purchasing, and environmental project management activities.
- Obtains, updates, and maintains environmental plans, permits, and standard operating procedures for CLIENT facilities.
- Provides technical support and guidance for environmental projects, regulatory analysis, and legal actions.
- Inspects, analyzes scientific data, quality control checks, and makes recommendations to ensure compliance with applicable state and EPA regulations.
- Monitors and reports on progress of environmental improvement programs.
- Inspects and monitors CLIENT facilities under required state environmental programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations and standards.
- Advises engineers, environmental management, and CLIENT executive teams about local, state, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
- Prepares, reviews, and updates environmental investigation, corrective action, remediation plans, and recommendations.
- Provides technical support for environmental remediation and litigation projects, including remediation system design and determination of regulatory applicability.
- Monitors progress of environmental improvement programs.
- Inspects plant facilities and environmental programs to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Develops proposed project objectives and targets, and reports to management on progress in attaining them.
- Advises the company on procedures to follow in cleaning up spill sites to protect people and the environment. Works with government agencies to clean up spill sites.
- Informs company employees and other interested parties of environmental issues.
- Assesses existing or potential environmental impact of land use projects on air, water, and land.
- Develops site-specific environmental protocols, such as spill contingency plans and methods for loading and transporting ash, oil, and waste.
- Manages environmental protection programs and projects, assigning and evaluating work.
- Serves as liaison with plant facilities and company officials on issues pertaining to all environmental regulations, such as air, water, solid and hazardous waste program requirements.
- Designs systems, processes, and equipment for control, management, and remediation of water, air, and soil quality. Prepare hazardous waste manifests and land disposal restriction notifications.
- Serves on teams conducting multimedia inspections at plant facilities.
- Assesses, designs, and implements projects and/or initiatives to assist providing effective and cohesive environmental compliance strategies to CLIENT.
- Develops and presents environmental compliance training or orientation sessions.
- Develops scope of work for environmental projects.
- Provides environmental engineering assistance in regulatory analysis, and planning or reviewing database development.
- Researches the federal registry for new regulations and develops outline of new regulations for potential impacts to CLIENT.
- Assists coworkers with data and information requests and interpretations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree (chemical, civil, or environmental) in Engineering from an ABET accredited program required. Based on CLIENT's business needs, a specific discipline may be determined upon the posting of this position.
Skills and Abilities:

- Knowledge of consent decree standards.
- Able to evaluate data to determine compliance with regulations.
- Ability to think logically, and to understand instructions on specific objectives, complex features and possible solutions.
- Proficient in data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
- Thorough knowledge of professional project management software and Microsoft Office products.
- Working knowledge and ability to download emissions from ESC, CLIENT Continuous Emission Monitors (CEMS) to monitor, measure, perform calculations and emissions analysis routinely or as needed.
- Can learn and use the Environmental Management System.
- Ability to plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate assigned work activities.
- Proficient verbal, written, and listening communication skills, including effective public speaking and presentation skills.
