Summary:
The Environmental Engineer is accountable for maintaining environmental systems, permitting and permit compliance, building a productive workplace through the education and training of employees in environmental practices, knowledge of emergency procedures, administration of company environmental policies for compliance to local, state, and federal regulations. The Environmental Engineer supports operations in the implementation and promotion of proactive environmental initiatives with the goals of maintaining regulatory compliance. Responsible for recommending and implementing EHS best practices across the organization. Lead the standardization of EHS programs, processes, policies, compliance efforts, training, and metrics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities
- Manages environmental permits, complying with an array of environmental laws and regulations.
- Assesses and performs complex analyses, chemical assessments and interactions supporting wastewater treatment plants, abatement systems, and manufacturing operations.
- Cross train between environmental duties or operations including wastewater management to a complex reclaim system.
- Troubleshoot and design potential changes to environmental systems including abatement and treatment.
- Collects and environmental samples, including air, water, soil, and wastes.
- Interacts with consultants, suppliers, and regulatory agencies regarding permitting and permit management.
- Compiles regulatory reports for air, water, waste, TSCA, Fire Marshal, and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Potential to supervise environmental operators.
- Advise management on matters related to environmental compliance and regulatory changes and trends
- Assess, recommend, and support standardized processes, practices, policies, training, and metrics across Albany Titanium Group.
- Troubleshoot and design potential changes to environmental systems.
- Work on/participate in special projects as needed or assigned by Management.
- Perform costing, reduction and budget analyses.
- Performs documentation management.
Site Responsibilities
- Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment, permitting within environmental permit requirements.
- Assess new chemical introduction impacts to wastewater, and permits, work integrally with safety members.
- Maintain water treatment systems such as reverse osmosis, sand filtration, evaporation, and other methodologies.
- Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment.
- Develop and deliver training of employees to regulatory requirements including RCRA and other programs.
- Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
- Consult with manufacturing regarding chemical operations related to by-products, chemical interactions, waste disposition.
- Respond and consult during environmental emergencies on proper methods of clean-up or process control.
- Responsible for knowledge and understanding of EHS regulations and requirements and developing and implementing programs to meet those requirements.
- Prepare and submit company EHS metrics
- Maintains a safe work environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or related field, is required.
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
- At least 2 years of environmental experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- At least 1 year of experience working with Environmental Programs such as RCRA, CAA, CWA, CERCLA, Stormwater, TSCA, REACH, RoHS, is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to influence without direct authority.
- Strong communication skills; both verbal and written

Working Conditions:
- Working Environment: Indoor and outdoor working environment within various areas of a foundry facility/office environment
- Physical Demands: Sitting/standing, using a computer screen, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time, ability to lift up to 50 lbs., walking, climbing stairs
- Travel Requirements: Must be able to travel between two local plants. Minimal outside travel.
- Required PPE: Must be able to wear a respirator
- Safety Glasses: Needed in all areas of the plant
- Steel toe shoes: Needed in all areas of the plant
