About the Job
The EHS Specialist performs plant-level safety and environmental compliance duties under limited supervision. Acts as liaison to applicable federal, state, and local agencies for assigned facility.Implements Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs to protect employees and reducerisk. Partners with plant leadership toimplement preventative measures to reduce the overall risk of injury and environmental concerns. Investigates EHS incidents to identify root cause andrecommend and implementcorrective actions.
- Implements health and safety programs aligned with the organizational safety management system.
- Implements ISO 14001 (where applicable) environmental management system.
- Coordinates and implements the application and training of safety rules, policies, and initiatives that help to create a safe workplace.
- Maintains OSHA logs, EHS records, and reporting for internal and external use.
- Assists with plant-level environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives (hazardous waste, air emissions, water, obtaining and maintaining permits, etc.) directly and in coordination with external consultants.
- Assists with site activities with regulatory agencies to verify compliance, resolve situations, and maintain a cooperative working relationship.
- Escalates/reports potential violations and implements corrections as needed.
- Conducts frequent safety and environmental audits and takes immediate corrective action if required.
- Recommends and implements EHS related capital projects for supported facilities.
- Investigates workplace safety and environmental incidents through root cause analysis and partners with the Operations team to implement corrective actions to correct problems and prevent future occurrences.
- Manages workers’ compensation for supported facilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned, which may include leading projects of varying scale or scope.
Job Skills Requirements
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable EHS regulations ensuring facility compliance with Federal government agencies (e. OSHA and EPA), local agencies, and safety regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of manufacturing environment safety (e. industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machinery guards, interlock systems, industrial vehicle training, PPE, etc.).
- Experience in implementing comprehensive safety, environmental, and sustainability projects.
- Ability to investigate and define root cause, collect data, establish facts, and use sound judgment to draw valid conclusions.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, computer skills, data analysis and reporting tools, and other applicable applications.
- Ability to work under limited supervision to carry tasks/projects through to completion while meeting established deadlines.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering, or related science disciplines, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience Requirements
- Three years of EHS experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
