Job Purpose:
The Entry Level Relay Technician is tasked with executing electrical testing on relays within electrical power stations. In this role, as an entry-level professional, you will be trained to use specialized equipment, including the Doble 6150, to conduct tests on various types of microprocessor relays located inside electrical substations. This position offers an opportunity for hands-on learning and skill development in the field of relay testing and maintenance within the electrical power industry.

Join EPS as an Entry Level Relay Engineer/Technician and learn to:
- Assist in acceptance testing and routine maintenance of Transmission and Distribution substation power equipment.
- Conduct testing and maintenance of various relay types including electro-mechanical, solid-state, and microprocessor relays.
- Perform testing and verification of pilot channel equipment such as power line carriers, pilot wires, transfer trips, and fiber optics.
- Calibrate relays, conduct trip testing, and verify digital fault recorders and sequence of event recorders.
- Implement test procedures using various relay test equipment.
- Maintain substation awareness and adhere to safety protocols.
- Learn and implement test procedures for different types of substation equipment.
- Support testing activities as required by the project lead, while demonstrating strong PC skills.
- Understanding of 3-phase power systems, power system protection & control schemes, and test equipment.
- Preferably, field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repairing substation relaying and control schemes in a professional or educational setting.
- Proficiency in using test equipment and tools, as well as interpreting wiring and elementary diagrams in a professional or educational setting.
- Ability to learn and apply client switching procedures and safety measures under supervision.
- Capability to perform regular fieldwork indoors and outdoors, including physical activities such as pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. without assistance.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Relay Technician - Two-year associate degree in electrical technology, Industrial Technology, Renewable Energy Technology, or AS in Electrical Engineering.
- Relay Engineer - A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology (BET) or bachelor’s in science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) is required for the Relay Field Engineer title.
