Job Overview
The Engineering Test Technician is responsible for providing reliable, pro-active support to the PA Optics Engineering team. This will include live fire testing of firearms with optics mounted.
This is a full-time position with predominantly daytime hours. Some non-standard work shifts may be required. Travel may be required 10-15% of the time.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in recoil testing operations in a safe manner.
- Directly assists in Engineering testing of new products.
- Support R&D team in any other duties to complete projects.
- Follows test plans, interprets test standards, documents raw test data, and creates written test reports to company standards.
- Aids in the creation and implementation of test plans for prototype and production optics.
- Participates in, or leads, test plan reviews to ensure test intent is met prior to the start of testing.
- Presents test data using statistics to assist the engineering staff and executive leadership decision making process.
- Conducts inventory of recoil test firearms and ammunition.
- Maintains recoil test firearms to ensure proper operation and accurately documents rounds counts and maintenance records.
- Ensures that engineering staff have sufficient supply of recoil test ammunition and ancillary equipment to conduct testing.
- Under Senior Director of Engineer/ Engineering Supervisor supervision aid engineering staff in the creation of new products using 3D CAD software, 3D printers, hand/power/machine tools for testing.
- Provides administrative support to engineering staff as needed.
- Maintains inventory of prototype, sample, and testing optics.
- Aids in the development of fixtures, test equipment, and gauges.
- Must be able to travel infrequently for recoil testing.
Qualifications:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the firearms and/or optics industry (Relevant hobby experience considered)
- Military or law enforcement experience desired
- Experience with handling and maintaining firearms.
- Expert marksmen rating or similar is highly desired.
- Armorer certifications, gunsmithing or Armory experience is preferred.
- Department of Defense Firearms Qualification preferred.
- Pistol, rifle, and shotgun training certifications from a recognized firearms academy preferred.
- A passion for firearms and optics. Capable of exhibiting strong firearms safety.
- Must have the willingness and passion to learn, ask questions and grow in the optics/firearms industry.
- NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO), Instructor, or Chief RSO certification is a plus.
- Maintains qualifications to act as a Range Safety Officer to include passing First Aid/Stop the Bleed classes.
- Ability to diagnose and correct problems encountered during testing.
- Willingness to learn how to use 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge with Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must be detail oriented and organized.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
- Experience with laboratory equipment including multimeters, data acquisition, power supplies, soldering, calipers, micrometers, microscopes, etc.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent work ethic and professionalism
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. no visa sponsorship and allowed to own (21 years or older) or handle firearms unescorted.
